Outline Interiors is a full-service design firm based in Chicago. Its principal, Laura Metcalfe, has 10 years of experience in the high-end residential design industry (both in New York City and Chicago, combined). Laura has worked for several of the top design firms in her field, including David Easton Inc, Thom Filicia Inc, and Branca Inc. She has been privileged to work on projects of various scales and design aesthetic all over the world. Laura created Outline Interiors in 2014 to bring her design and project management skills to a new clientele. Outline Interiors is passionate about working with clients that are perhaps new to the design process, or young professionals who are ready to invest in their living space, but don't know where to begin. Working with Clients that are new to the interior design process is something that Laura enjoys. Seeing how they engage in the design process and their reaction when they have a finished product is incredibly fulfilling. Most people don't realize how wonderful their Living Spaces can be with a little work and creativity.

I elicited the assistance of outline interiors for the purpose of completely changing the look of both my bedroom and guest room. There was a ton of work to be done with regards to painting, carpet, removal of installed structures, etc. Laura is extremely professional, always available, and prompt with getting the job done in an efficient manner. Not to mention, the design ideas are phenomenal and she has taken what I envisioned to a whole new level. This has exceeded my expectations and I hope to work with outline interiors on future projects!

My husband and I recently purchased our first home and are moving from a 1 bedroom apartment into a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. We were both overwhelmed with the thought of decorating and filling an entire home! We typically would not be ones to hire an interior designer, however hiring Laura has been one of the best decisions that we could have made! She has helped us with everything from paint colors to furniture and layout. I have gone from completely overwhelmed to now being so excited to move into our new, beautifully decorated home. Laura is not in our same city, but that has not posed a problem at all. Not only has she been extremely knowledgeable, she has also been mindful of our wants and needs as well as our budget. She is always friendly and quick to respond to any questions or requests that we have. I will definitely refer Laura to many of our family and friends with design needs - I am convinced that she is the best!

We hired Laura to help us decorate a small private office space for a two person managed business. Before hiring Laura, we underestimated the knowledge, expertise, and general skill set required to pull together a sophisticated office design. Foolishly, we tried to decorate the office in coordination with moving, picking out furniture, and trying to keep our business running smoothly. Laura swooped in to save the day and we can honestly say we wish we had known her and hired her from the get-go. Laura would have saved us the frustration, energy, headache, and financial resources we put into trying to decorate on our own. We simply told Laura about our business model, the type of clients we work with, and our basic sense of personal style. Laura perfectly delivered a sophisticated and tasteful office interior design, while making herself 100% accessible. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Outline Interiors bills an hourly fee for time spent on the project, as well as a small design fee on items specified and purchased through us.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet with the client first to get a better sense of their project scope, aesthetic preferences, budget, and overall personality. Following this meeting, I submit a design contract for review that details the billing structure, confirms the scope, and includes an estimated time billing amount. Once the contract is confirmed and signed, I begin drawings, sourcing items and schedule the first design presentation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Interior Design, cum laude from Texas Christian University. My experience working for some of the top firms in country based in NYC and Chicago have really prepared me for any situation.
