About
My Chicago based interior design practice is focused on creating beautiful, functional environments that reflect an elevated vision of my clients' taste and personality. Each project focuses on bringing together a look and feel that compliments the existing architecture of the home while bringing new life to the space with bold innovative design concepts. I work on a variety of project types from home renovations down to detailed decisions on decor and accessories. Many of my projects focus on 1 or 2 rooms within the home, but full home design and even smaller consultations are aspects of my business as well.

Had a great experience with my renovation that Peter designed at my Chicago. Condo. He did an excellent job of bringing together, furniture, wall, coverings, and other aesthetics to make the place look great. And he was always very mindful of my budget and made choices that were a great fit for the look and for the wallet. He delivered a great look in a collaborative environment. We worked hand in hand, but his suggestions are always ones that I gravitate to. I’ve dealt with several interior decorators over the years and I have to say my experience with Peter was one of the best. I highly recommend him.

Details: Design of 3 - 4 rooms • Living room • Bedroom(s) • Bathroom(s) • 1,000 - 1,500 sq ft • Color palette / paint selection • Furniture selection • Lighting selection • Contemporary • My home, venue, etc.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Peter Overman on multiple projects over the years, and the results have exceeded our expectations every time. Peter first helped transform our home in Chicago, and we were so impressed by his creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail that we asked him to work on our home in Scottsdale, Arizona as well. Each space Peter has designed for us feels both elevated and deeply personal. He has a remarkable ability to understand our taste and lifestyle and bring it to life in a way that feels effortless yet refined. Peter is thoughtful, responsive, and brings a calm, confident presence to what could otherwise be a stressful process. We couldn’t be happier with the work he’s done, and we continue to get compliments from friends and family on both homes. I would highly recommend Peter Overman to anyone looking to create a beautiful, comfortable space with a designer you can truly trust.

Peter was the first and only interior designer I have worked with and he set the bar high! I consider myself to be a design forward person with functionality being essential. Peter's work reflected this philosophy as well. I provided him with an extensive mood board (shout out Pinterest!) that included a variety of inspiration (sink style, tile colors, general aesthetic inspiration). I would recommend doing this for any project. It helps everyone align on the vibe and the design. Our home is 104 years old and we lean into that. Peter aligned with us on this value as well. Honoring the charm and aesthetic that already exists while putting your own personality and style into it. This was the first renovation we've embarked on and while we ran into typical issues old homes will run into, Peter was so adaptable in modifying the design when we ran into a major construction set back. I would highly recommend Peter for any renovation large or small. He takes his time to understand you, your home, what you're dreaming of and helps brings it to life through collaboration and his brilliant design talent!

Was interested in buying an older home which needs walls moved due ti small rooms. Everyone else blew me off and told me ti talk to a general contractor. But GC’s don’t know if rooms are livable or not. Very professional and understanding of what I was trying to do.

Details: Full home design • Bedroom(s) • Living room • Dining room • Office space • 1,000 - 1,500 sq ft • Space planning / layout • Contemporary • My home, venue, etc.

Peter was great to work with from the very beginning! He was able to work with my short time frame and limited budget and helped me source furniture for a new office space. I would highly recommend him.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I offer both full design services and design consultation services on residential projects and small commercial spaces. A full design service project typically includes furniture selection, space planning, paint selection and accessory selection. I also work with selecting artwork, coordinating construction installations such as tile specification and cabinetry and the space planning of either new or demolished walls.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When hiring a designer, you want to look for someone that not only knows how to put together the look you desire for your space, but is also experienced in the technical side of the work and has a good understanding of functionality. The portfolio is a good place to look for the visual side of the job, whereas knowing whether or not your designer has studied design in an academic setting is a pretty good indicator of technical knowledge and expertise in spatial planning.
