FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up going to work with my dad during summer vacation. My dad is retired now, but he did auto body repair. I thought that is what I was going to do for the rest of my life. I really enjoyed it, I went to school for it, and when I finished school, I got a job doing auto body. I ended up hating having to get up and go to work every day. Luckily, my girlfriend's uncle needed a helper at an electrical company. I loved it from day one. I soon realized that auto body work is a hobby to me. I still do it on occasion because I do enjoy painting cars and tinkering, it just wasn't the career for me.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
For 99% of the projects you have, getting an accurate quote over the phone or computer is near impossible. It's best to have a professional come out and take a look at the project so they know what they are getting into. Another thing that isn't realized, is that if the professional sees the job at hand ahead of time, when they come back to do the project, they are usually more prepared. It cuts back on trips to home improvement stores, and in some cases it prevents a contractor from not doing something properly to just get the job done because they don't have the proper supplies. We at Express Electric would never do that, but we fix a lot of things that past contractors have done incorrectly, or not up to code or industry standards.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
There's no such thing as a quick 20 to 30 minute project. It usually takes about that much time to unload our tools and get set up. Then there is also clean up that take another 30 minutes or so. Obviously this doesn't apply to simply changing out a gfi outlet or a switch, but in the majority of cases, you would be surprised at the amount of tools required to do something most homeowners think is a quick and easy job.
