John Neidel of Neidel's Heating & Air not only is exceptionally competent and experienced, he is exceptionally honest. In a service industry where it is difficult to find a professional who the average homeowner—especially a single woman—can trust, I found that Mr. Neidel is a man of remarkable integrity. When my air conditioner failed, a friend with electronics experience did some troubleshooting and thought he had isolated the problem, with a fix that would require at least one new part. However, John quickly dismissed the need for any replacement parts on the AC unit, and focused instead on my thermostat, which happened to be a new digital model. Poorly written installation directions had resulted in improper wiring, which caused my air conditioner to shut down. John's fee amounted to not a penny more than what he charges for a service call: $65. A few days later, our Central-Illinois weather switched from hot to cold again, and—frustratingly—I found myself with a furnace problem. Of course, I called Neidel's Heating & Air. Although it was past business hours, I left a message on John's voice mail. He called me the next morning, telling me that he had to come to Champaign, IL, where I live anyway, so he'd be at my home in less than two hours. Again, the thermostat was the culprit, and John told me he'd seen problems with that particular model before. I still had my old-fashioned circular thermostat, so I had him replace the now detested-digital one with the old one. He also noticed that the front panel on my furnace was improperly installed, so he fixed that. Total charge: $35, because he "had to come to town anyway." Pass the word: Neidel's Heating & Air of Ivesdale, IL, does great work at the best price around. It would be just plain silly to hire anyone else!
