I sought Mr. Novi out after taking a long hiatus from piano. I have had many piano teachers but Mr. Novi is definitely one of the most fun and enthusiastic teachers I've had. I have had many years of classical piano instruction but am completely new to jazz. Mr. Novi will give me suggestions on new pieces to learn, but ultimately leaves choosing what I learn up to me, no matter what style I want to learn (classical, jazz, rock n' roll, etc). Because of this I never see practicing as a chore since I am only playing the pieces that I truly enjoy. Mr. Novi is a fantastic musician himself, it's very inspiring to listen to him play! I would absolutely recommend Mr. Novi for anyone interested in studying piano.
Bob is great! Patient and fun. We have worked with him for over a year and he even organized four 6-year-olds for a band for the school talent show in a very short time.
When the LIVE band sounds like a recording. That's when you know you chose the right group for the job. Professionalism was beyond measurable and the overall experience was A+
Dollar for dollar, hiring The Band Sundance was the best decision we made in our wedding budget. The band gave us a great experience from beginning to end. We had numerous guests say we had the best or one of the best receptions they have ever attended because of the music and our dancing (obviously aided by the music). They kept asking where I found them and how much I must have paid to book them. As great as the band was, they did not detract from us as a couple. Jim and the band planned everything to cater to us. They provided a DJ for the breaks, and a few songs we wanted outside of their repertoire were played on break. They even let me sit in for a song. I found them through this site, and did a lot of other research on them before booking. We wanted a band who could provide the 1940s big band sound for swing dancing and also play contemporary rock, pop, and country with everything in between (50s, Elvis, 80s, polkas, waltzes, etc.). Moreover, we wanted a band who played both “In the Mood”and “Uptown Funk” well. Hard to find, huh? Well, here they are. They read the crowd well and knew what songs to play to keep people excited and on the dance floor. They have a full sound with keyboards, drum set, lead guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, sax, and vocals, and they blended very well as a ensemble. They helped give our reception such an amazing energy. This praise might seem effusive from anyone who has not seen them, but you cannot go wrong with these guys.
Kathryn was exactly what I envisioned when I set out to find a jazz singer for my father in law's birthday party. Her voice is seriously gorgeous and she was very easy to work with. She was flexible with me throughout our time planning the gig and was able to accommodate all of my requests. While her song list is quite vast, there were a few special tunes she specifically learned for this event and they sounded fabulous. She found the perfect accompaniment in a very talented guitar player as well. Throughout the time Kathryn performed and for hours afterwards I received compliments from other guests for finding such a talented duo. The men and women alike were very impressed with the quality of music, song selections, appearance, and demeanor of both musicians. Everyone thought the music really added something special to the party. Most importantly, my father in law was absolutely amazed with what wound up being the perfect gift for him. He was very impressed and I was so happy to see his face when Kathryn sang one of the songs she especially learned for us. He'll never forget it. I'd hire Kathryn again in a heartbeat.
Artist collective is a very professional business that has the musician in their best interest. I personally have worked with them and it was so nice to have them take care of the "business" end, so I could concentrate on the creative end with my band. AC set us up with a photo/video shoot and it was a success! Highly recommended by us!!
We really enjoyed having Maxwell and his band at our holiday party every year since 2014. They played all the songs we requested and kept their performance at a reasonable volume.
Nick and his mate, Sam showed up on time....ready to work and continued to play three sets during a three hour period. This is my first time hiring a band for my personal party and I could not have worked with a better pair. I will definitely use him again. Well worth the money. Nice guys and open to my inexperienced suggestions. Lol! And I haven't even mention the quality of their music (jazz) was outstanding. They were the hit and highlight of the party.
La Fuerza Versatil is a perfect example of what a well committed and disciplined band is all about. They also play all kinds of music, from Banda, rancheras to cumbias and zapateados. Their performances are always great. The crowd really enjoys their music.
I am so pleased with Sid and Hala. We had them play for my mom's 80th birthday party last weekend. Beginning with my first correspondence with them up until they left the party, they were wonderful. I have never used Thumbtack before or even heard of Thumbtack so I didn't know what to expect. I put in the information to Thumbtack a few months ago looking for a live band for my mom's birthday party. I had no idea what a live band would cost and if there was anything available where I was looking to have the party. (The party was a good hour from any major city). So once I entered the information into the Thumbtack website, within maybe an hour or so Sid and Hala contacted me. They introduced themselves, informed me about the type of band they were (acoustic), type of music they played and told me costs in the first correspondence (quite reasonable I thought). We went back and forth several times with questions of mine and their answers and they always answered within an hour. Can you believe they were willing to drive 2 hours to my event! I couldn't believe it. No extra charge for drive time either! So we had a verbal/email commitment with them and the next week they emailed a contract that I signed and sent back to them. We emailed back and forth a couple of times over the following few months up until the event. The emails were mainly regarding song selection. They have a good sized list of songs they play on their website. I had two song requests that they didn't currently play but they were more than willing to learn for me. The day of the party they were right on time-1 pm sharp. They were professional and polite. They gave themselves an hour to set up and started right at 2 pm like we planned. They checked in with me prior to starting to ask about when they should play the songs they learned special for me. They asked if it was okay if they took a break in the middle. (Of course it was okay!) The quality of performance was 5 star and then some. Their voices are beautiful and work really well together. I had listened to several of their songs on you-tube prior and the internet quality of the music was not the greatest for some of the songs. Let me tell you that in person they are fabulous!! So much sound and talent from two people. My family threw in some song requests that they were not expecting and they accommodated beautifully. They could play the music and just looked up the words on their smart phones so they didn't make any mistakes. That was the only time they had to read lyrics. If you had not been looking at them you would have never known they were reading the music. I received compliment after compliment from our guests on how great the music was. I cannot recommend this acoustic band enough. You will not be disappointed. Well worth the money.
Steve is a great guy and a wonderful musician. Steve graduated the year before I started high school. He came back to help the saxophone section learn music for marching band and along the way, gave many valuable pointers to help us all know our instruments better and grow as young musicians. Almost 20 years later and I still regard him as an inspiration to my musical endeavors.
My son learned to play guitar there at the age of 5. He is now 12 and has continued his lessons and has formed a Rock Band where they all practice and perform through the music school. They have all learned a tremendous amount and it continues to be a wonderful experience for them.
I hired a band to play at my husbands 50th Birthday Party, they were great on time and professional.
My daughter, Piper, started her 1st music lessons with Miss Jessica at age 7. She laid the foundation for love of music which continues to this day. Her thoughtful lessons designed to suit Piper's ability, made learning fun and easy. Her uncanny patience brought them through periods when faced with greater music challenges. I appreciated her approachable demeaner and willingness to keep an open dialogue. Piper passed from piano to French horn in 5th grade when school band was offered. With the benefit of lessons from Miss Jessica, it made for a smooth transition. Thanks for 4 great years! Kate (Piper's mom)
Sorry For Partying played at my wedding this past May and they were outstanding. The band members are true professionals and their performance couldn't have been better. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. They truly make any occasion way more fun.
Arkansas Dogjaw is an indie-progressive rock power trio from Urbana, Illinois. With hauntingly sweet guitar, aggressive bass, mouth-watering drumming, and powerful vocals, they bring a fresh sound and tangible groove. What makes this band unique and exciting is the diverse musical backgrounds of the members and the way that the genres are combined to create a new, big sound. "One of my old bands "Certifiable" played a show with these guys some time back at "Heartbreakers" on the Landing. They blew my mind that night with their level of musicianship and technical ability! They are flying the "integrity" flag high in a world of stagnant music." -- Joe Rich, St. Louis, MO Arkansas Dogjaw can play up to 90 minutes continuously, composed mainly of originals. Covers can be requested, and past covers have included songs from Tool, Modest Mouse, and Nirvana.
