Introduction: Architecturally Speaking has been providing custom cabinetry, carpentry and interior remodeling services for over 25 years. Our cabinetry work includes projects such as entertainment centers, built-in bookcases and custom solutions for our client's particular needs. Our professional carpentry services encompass building decks and trellises, installing doors, windows and interior trim work like crown molding and wainscoting. Our remodeling projects range from complete kitchen and home remodels to basement finishing. With our architectural background we can provide you with professional in-house design and planning services in addition to licensed home inspections and construction management consulting. With Architecturally Speaking's varied background we find that every project is very different. this allows us to focus on our clients needs with great detail and comprehensiveness. Since we don't do the same types of projects all the time we are not concerned about profitability factor as we are about how to best provide and best solve the client's needs. He is a former house inspector. This is an extremely valuable perspective when you consider making changes to your home. He is thoughtful and measured. He completed several extensive projects in my home: replacing wood flooring in my entranceway with tile, refacing my fireplace surround where he demolished existing large boulder stones and replaced with sleek flat tile and even suggested I lower the hearth to the floor for a more modern look. He shrunk the footprint of an oversized kitchen island that involved moving cabinetry and plumbing and preparing the base for a new top and he helped me redo my powder room and replaced my '80s mirrored cabinet fronts with custom stained wood. I am happy and very pleased with the work he has done on my home. He made a number of suggestions about how to maintain my home going forward. I appreciated this expertise.

On a recommendation, we hired Jim Butz to finish off our fireplace wall and add a mantel. We had a few pictures of things that we liked but were not sure exactly what we wanted. Jim patiently met with us several times and gave many suggestions and price options before we finally made a decision. We could not be happier with the outcome! The design, workmanship, and attention to detail were all topnotch!! Jim was not finished with the job until it met his high standard (he noticed and fixed things that we didn't even notice!). He stuck to our budget, listened to what we wanted, and delivered in a very timely manner. He was always on time and left our place neat and tidy. We would and probobly will use him again for other projects. We highly recommend his services!!

Jim did a great job building "built in" shelves as well as adding some under the counter lighting in my kitchen. He was very easy to work with and did great work. The project was on time and under budget.

I hired Architecturally Speaking to prepare my townhouse for sale. Jim and his team painted the home, updated the kitchen which included replacing flooring, installing granite counters and replacing the appliances. In addition, they also updated two bathrooms on the second level. I found Jim to be professional and dependable. The work came in on budget and on time. The workmanship was top notch and we were very satisfied with the results.

Started doing carpentry projects in college. After working for architects in both Dallas and Chicago, I found more enjoyment working on-site with the homeowners than at the drafting table.

Primarily homeowners. From city town homes, suburban homes to Lake forest mansions.
