Katie is a gentle and kind teacher. My kids, ages 4/5, 9, 11 all looked forward to piano lessons. I've never seen them so excited about any private lessons until working with Katie, she has a talent for encouraging all styles of learners. Their lessons with her sparked a desire to learn and appreciate music. It also has had benefits beyond the Arts. My youngest previously needed therapy to strengthen fine motor skills. Katie was patient and gave appropriate exercises to develop the strength needed for the keyboard and she is improving! My middle child had previously made progress with a reading specialist (aka dyslexia) and we found learning to read music and the progressive approach in the music books Katie picked for each kids need/levels have had a tremendous impact on her tracking during reading! Finally, my oldest has sensory disorders and the compassionate instruction and guidance Katie offered has helped us all as a family. We are so thankful to have found an instructor like Katie!

I really enjoy watching my 6yo learn piano from Katie. She is so patient and kind. She is not strict (as some piano teachers tend to be) and instead uses encouragement to get my daughter to grow. We really enjoyed how she put together a low pressure recital. My very shy daughter was able to get up and play in front of a crowd after only playing for 5 months. I have recently started working with her myself and she’s very fun to work with. I would recommend her to anyone.

I have being playing piano with Katie for the past 3 ½ years and have made a lot of progress. I started off only knowing the treble clef and the names of keys on piano, and now I know the bass and treble clef, whole notes through 16th notes, ties and slurs, dotted notes, scales, and tons of music vocabulary. Katie is really patient and kind. If you don’t get something; instead of making you feel bad about not knowing, she can put it into terms you can understand. Katie also keeps you at a good pace to get you through the books. I’m already on my fifth one and currently playing harder songs I never thought I would be able to play! She is good at getting you excited to play piano and even excited to practice your new skills. I highly recommend Katie as your music teacher. -Alexandria age 14

Katie is such a patient and wonderful teacher. One of the things I appreciate about her the most is her willingness to work with me on the things I’m interested in. If I come with a specific question or particular challenge, she’s always very supportive and will find ways to make things easier and fun!

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once we cover the initial details, we'll set up a phone call and a trial lesson, so you can get started asap!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts: Psychology.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I teach kids, teenagers, and occasionally adults (based on what they want to learn), and use time-proven methods! I usually recommend to start lessons at age 6 or 7, but occasionally take 4 or 5yo's if the parent is willing to help them with practicing.
