- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Mural work, Custom Decorative Painting and Faux Finishing work varies in price substantially depending upon size of the area, painting medium, detail and project scope. It's best to provide as much info as possible so that I can give a range of price, but until I can measure the space, review the surfaces to be painted and present my portfolio options, it's almost impossible to give a fair or exact price. The same is true when trying to provide quotes for custom artwork such as murals or hand painted elements which I need to physically review the site in person and develop a project plan. Straight painting can be relatively easy to price, provided I have the actual wall square footage, not the room square footage - which will produce incorrect results. Wallpaper Hanging requires information on the exact wall covering to be hung as well as the space it will be installed. Expect to purchase an extra roll of wallpaper to ensure adequate coverage.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The process begins with a phone call where we have an opportunity to exchange information about the project, the location and requirements. I may direct you to my website to see specific work or may send a few pictures via email or text from samples I have in my studio. You may send pictures of the jobsite, pieces of furniture you want painted or pictures of things you have in the room to dictate theme for a mural or handpainted piece. I then schedule a meeting on site to review everything and show you samples of my work or portfolio. I create a proposal for the work that includes pricing, scope of work and schedule. Once the contract is approved and deposit received, work is placed in queue on the schedule. I typically run 2-4 weeks booked out, though sometimes there are exceptions when new construction work gets moved back, allowing an opening for fill ins or moving clients up. Rarely do I move clients back, because I can utilize additional assistants to stay on schedule in the event add ons in a current project start to cause a delay.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am currently working towards an advanced degree in arts and materials conservation. I also attend workshops, seminars and annual conferences for the professional art organizations for which I am a member, keeping up to date on current trends, materials and techniques. I will continue to pursue educational opportunities in both the Decorative Painting and Fine Art/Architectural Restoration fields in order to evolve and strengthen my skill set for the future.
