I hired MPP to scrape/paint/repair wood on my garage (did good job) and to repair a porch roof. What was expected to be a straight forward repair on the roof became very in depth due to the age of the house. Fred Queen headed up the repairs and he stayed in contact with me during the entire job. I knew what he was running into, what the solution was, and how much it would cost along the way. I was pretty impressed with the communication back and forth. I will definitely be hiring MPP again. I do recommend them.

Nestor and crew did a phenomenal job on my garage. The price was higher than I anticipated, but the work that needed to be done was also a bigger job. He needed to replace damaged drywall & seal a lot of cracks and nail holes. Nestor was there on time, superior craftsmanship and patience all the way. He even matched the texture--this was more than just a "paint job." I feel like the value of my garage just doubled in value--it really looks great.

Marshall went above and beyond what was asked of him. He came every day until the job was complete and we are very happy with the outcome. The job description we gave him was to drywall a closet and put in a light fixture. He also hung two mirrors and added baseboards and quarter rounds. We will certainly call him again as the need arises.

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the results of our kitchen and bath remodel that Richard and his helper Billy completed in our home. In the bathroom, a new, tiled full shower with a glass partition and door, tile on the floor, a new vanity with a quartz top and all associated plumbing was magnificently done by Richard. All drywall, cieling replastering and painting was done also. In the kitchen and dining area, entryway, and utility room, the floor was taken down to subfloor and all new tile was installed. This included the removal of the water softener and hot water heater before tiling. Tile base board was fixed in place where visible as well. In the dining area, as Richard took up the flooring, he discovered water damage to the floor that reached floor joists and band board immediately beneath a defective patio door to outside. As soon as I ordered a new patio entry door, Richard very happily removed the old door, repaired and replaced and reinstalled rotten band board, joists and subflooring beneath the door. With this solid structure restored, Richard then installed the new patio door, along with outside trim flashing and sheet metal. Once this was resolved, Richard went back to finishing tile installation in our kitchen, with tile base board, in our laundry closet and pantry. Richard even wired in a new light fixture in our pantry. Richard then installed our new cabinets, including an island, completely replumbed the kitchen for a relocated sink and dishwasher hookup, and rewired our former has stove area to take an electric stove, preserving the gas service to boot. The kitchen was also extensively rewired for many more and newer lighting fixtures, including a nifty rope light system under the upper cabinets! Overall, my wife and I were extremely pleased with the results of our kitchen and bath remodel that Richard and his helper Billy completed. As a machinist by trade, I recognize and appreciate Richard's dedication to his craftsmanship and also Richard's personal commitment to excellence in practicing his trade as a master carpenter. Richard handled a wide array of added on work and necessary repair work that raised its ugly head during the course of this project with patience and easy confidence. Anyone considering Richard's services should feel the the same maximum degree of confidence and respect for his abilities that my wife and I feel towards Richard and his helper Billy. I recommend Richard to the highest degree possible to anyone considering his services. I thank you, Richard for your hard work and outstanding craftsmanship in our project.

We had some roof damage from recent storms. We got three estimates. The two other roofers ( they will remain nameless) Explained we would need to replace the roof. Mr.wright was the only roofer to tell us we only needed minor repairs. Literally saving us 1000’s!! When he told us he could start the job in a week. He followed through and had his crew there the day he said he would start and they were on time!! One year later our roof doesn’t leak!! I would recommend him to my mother!!

Jay painted our living room with cathedral ceiling, fireplace, and hearth. One wall was done in Venetian plaster. He repaired small "dings" in the walls before starting and was meticulously neat. Jay is truly a craftsman. The Venetian plaster treatment is difficult and laborious. He worked enthusiastically on it. His aim was not only to please us but to please himself with his work. We are very satisfied.

Kyle completed drywall repair and interior painting in my home. The repairs he made to my drywall were flawless and smooth; you wouldn't know there were ever any pre-existing holes! Also, his painting skills are impeccable; paint coverage was precise, full and even. His execution was also great; no drips, spills, or messes! I would highly recommend Kyle and his work, and will re-hire him for my future home repair and/or painting projects. Thank you, Kyle!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
