Introduction: The tagline says it all. There is a difference between taking a photograph, and making a photograph. Anyone capable of pressing a camera shutter can capture a scene, but the resulting photograph will reveal the efforts that contributed to the capture before the shutter was pressed. The amount, quality, and originality of thought, preparation, and education separate amateurs from professionals, and photographs that are taken, from ones that are made. This distinction is easier to identify, but what separates one professional from another? It is my opinion that the aesthetic qualities of a photograph determine whether or not it is worthy of the wall, but it is the message being communicated that determines whether or not it is appropriate for the setting. The endeavor of Dylan Mumaw Photography is to produce photography that exhibits exemplary characteristics in both respects; promoting positive messages, and exceeding aesthetic expectations. It is by these merits that I aspire for my work to be popular, and something that you want to display. The detail oriented workflow. From keying on a client's preferences, to chasing and shaping the light during a session, to meticulously editing the images, to finally producing a printed product to deliver to the client.
