Introduction: I don't focus on riding circles in a ring. Yes, there is some of that, but not until you're bored to death. Riding at First Farm Inn is fun. Getting out and riding across the pastures and through the woods is not only more interesting to you and your horse, but bringing up things you need to know when you're riding. I focus on centered riding and being kind to your horse, not jerking on reins, kicking and spurring a horse that is often being punished when his rider is incorrectly cueing him. My riders are people who like animals and really want to connect with them. They love feeding treats, grooming and sharing energy with the big guys. My horses are happy, healthy, kind and usually, willing to work when asked.

I took my 15-year old niece horsebackriding for the very first time at First Farm Inn, and she laughed with joy the entire time. I've been on a few horseback riding ventures and most were with 25 other people wandering across an open field with a short trek through a few trees. Not so with Jen! She actually taught us how to control the horses, and we rode all over the property, across open fields and thru steep trails in the trees. We even learned to trot and canter! I have great photos and my niece had an experience of a lifetime. She even enjoyed feeding the horses watermelon after our ride and got a chance to brush them. Quite the memorable outdoor experience for a city teenager!

Jen of First Farm Inn offers super professional horseback riding levels. But these aren't daunting lessons, she gears her information directly to each participant meeting everyone exactly where they are in the moment. I was so impressed I have vowed to get my husband into some lessons with her.

Discounts for guests who stay in the bed and breakfast as well as off-season riding.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend all kinds of riding seminars, read constantly and take dressage lessons.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Guests begged to ride my horses and told me they knew how to ride. When I saw how people who thought they knew how to ride treated horses -- not out of desire to be cruel or mean but simply out of ignorance -- I began learning how to teach riding.
