Gino was a pleasure to work with. He did an outstanding job all around. He was very polite and respectful of me and my kids. I would definitely use him again if any thing pops up. He moved us from our old home to our new one, then the completed a list of imperfections. We needed some framing, drywall, painting and he even fixed our leaky faucet. He finished all the work in great time and a wonderful finished product. I would advise anyone to hire Gino if they had to move or any home repairs.

After watching the ordeals of many people trying to repair their homes ( esp after Katrina), I observed two things consistently: 1) if one pays cheaply for repairs , the end result most often will be..... a cheap job. Too often , money is again spent to correct or revise the jobs. In the end, that job was not "so cheap", after all.....not to mention, wasting more time---looking again for that " right " contractor. 2) paying " a lot" of money for the repairs should mean ...you get good results. But ( for whatever reasons) that is not always true. And, too often, you feel the results were not "so much better" ---to justify paying such higher costs . So my friends and I learned ...never hire someone that gave the cheapest rates--- or throw good money away on expensive contractors. Yet, it is difficult to find someone who is reasonably priced, does good quality work, and consistently reliable. But, I did found Gianni... who fulfilled all of the the criteria. . Being out of town often for business , I could trust Gianni to be reliable --and honest. Discussing ( with intellect ) the pros and cons of his and my viewpoints before any repair (along with daily updates -- voice and/or pics) ....ensured that we would be on the " same page" throughout the process. The home renovation for my daughters was a success. He made sure that they would sleep safely at night. They will not have to worry about the quality his repair work...so that they can now concentrate on their school work. Gianni...his patience, his teachings, his concerns for my family. I appreciated all that.

Oscar is a professional, comes prepared with tools and supplies. He never takes a break other than to take a sip of water occasionally. His work quality is phenomenal, I would and will use Oscar again for any work needed. He hung lights, fans, he fixed closet doors, repaired Sheetrock, changed the front door entrance lock and deadbolt and many other things. I can’t come up with the words to describe how good he was. Stop looking and hire Oscar now!

We hired Br Pro Painting to complete multiple projects around our house that we'd been meaning to handle for a couple months now (painting, drywall repair, fence repair, broken tiles in the bathroom, a door that wouldn't close, etc.). When Gustavo and Ruben began working, we discovered that our drywall repair actually included mold, termites, and rotten wood and became a much more extensive repair than anticipated. They communicated every step along the way to us and did the work right (no easy/quick fixes) at a price we felt was fair. Overall, we would recommend Br Pro Painting to anyone looking to tackle projects around the house (even beyond painting). They worked efficiently, were very friendly and trustworthy, and overall did a great job.

I used Legacy for a paint job. Not only were their prices fair, they did an awesome job. They were very professional and completed the job before the deadline. I was a bit nervous as I never used them before, they definitely put my mind at easy with their quality of work. I will definitely refer them to family and friends. I will also be hiring them to repair my roof!

Working with Bill has been a pleasure. He has been quick to respond and professional. We are working to repair a water damaged home long distance and he has been extremely helpful and has gone out of his way to meet with our insurance adjuster. He also is more than knowledgeable enough to discuss the relevant issues such as acceptable levels of moisture in the home. He has made the process much less stressful than if we were handling things on our own. I am a real-estate investor and finding people who do what they say they are going to do has become increasingly difficult. I am grateful to have found this company and plan on using their services for future projects. Additionally, I would sincerely recommend them to family and friends in need of a contractor.

We hired Erix Garcia to install our kitchen floor. It turned out so great, that we will be hiring Erix to install our drywall, do the painting, and we are also going to hire him to do flooring in the main areas of the house. Very nice young man, very digilant hard worker. Came on time, and if he was running late, he called to let us know. So glad to have a contracter we can depend on. Thank you, Erix. I am writing this review to express my satisfaction and to compliment the contracted repairs and enhancements work at my home by Shivers Nellon with Chase Remodeling and construction, Inc. following the Flood destruction which occurred in the August 2016 event. I was pleased with the bidding process and their work was all done very professionally and in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Mr. Nellon and company to home owners and Builders.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
