Introduction: Kerry Lusignan holds a Master's from the Department of Applied Psychology at Antioch New England Graduate School, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and has over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health. In 2002 she opened her first private practice in Northampton and in 2009 began dedicating her practice exclusively to the treatment of couples in distress. The Northampton Center for Couples Therapy was founded in 2010 based on what she saw as a strong need in the community for highly trained couples therapists who could work with couples in crisis. Couples have traveled from as far away as Boston, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont to receive treatment from her in stabilizing and healing their relationship. Additionally, Kerry is one of approximately 130 Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapists in the world. Gottman certification requires intensive training and clinical experience treating couples, advanced training with Dr. John Gottman, and documented video-supervised clinical hours by a Senior Gottman Method Couples Therapist. In order to become certified, all Gottman Therapists have their work independently reviewed by The Gottman Institute, and go through a final rigorous application process.

My husband and I started seeing Kerry Lusgnan at Northampton Center for Couples Therapy six months ago in serious crisis. We were on the verge of splitting up due to ongoing conflict that we were unable to work through by ourselves or with another therapist. We barely recognize ourselves as a couple anymore. We rarely argue and if we do it is resolved immediately. Not only have we learned and integrated new skills, we now have a level of love and respect that we were not sure was possible before we started. Not only are we more loving and happy in our marriage, we have the best sex ever and we feel much happier in all areas in of our lives.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Research shows that on average couples will wait six years from the time they realize they have serious problems to the time they seek help. By this point couples are often in crisis and do not have time to "shop around" and find the right fit. Many therapists offer couples counseling, usually as part of a range of other services. But couples therapy is a specialty. The Northampton Center for Couples Therapy is the only group private practice in New England dedicated exclusively to working with couples.
