A C Landscaping was hired to remove snow from my driveway sidewalk and walkways during the 2 storms we had in February of 2017 in Belmont. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they performed in a highly professional manner as evidenced by their removing all the snow. I believe that the Owner has a very strong work ethic and is very responsive to customer needs. I definitely intend to use them again in the future as the need arises. Brendan V. I hired Steve and his group to perform two jobs: steam spraying/oil stain removal on my very large driveway, and steam cleaning/mildew removal on my asphalt shingle front roof. He was extremely professional and dedicated to the highest standards. My roof looks brand new and the driveway, twenty years old, looks impeccable. Furthermore, though I had a scheduled appointment for the roof job, my home is on the market and I was asked for a showing without much notice. On a Saturday morning, Steve jumped to my rescue, knowing I wanted to have the roof looking pristine. While he was here, he spent more time working on a couple of driveway spots that needed a bit more attention. Overall, you cannot find anyone better in quality and customer satisfaction than Steve and Green Boys.

I'm very impressed with Stephen's quality of work. He replaced my field stone concrete steps with big slabs of granite and also tore up my walk way to install some new beautiful cambridge pavers. It didn't end there, he also ran sleeves for my outdoor powerline and irrigation system since those lines ran under my previous walkway. His pricing was very good and I plan to hire him again for future projects. I also get compliments all the time now from my neighbors when they pass by my brand new walkway :).

I hired Dan tonight to plow my driveway and clear the walkway and steps following the storm. He responded to my quote request on Thumbtack within minutes. I was stuck at work all evening and was unable to shovel. He promptly arrived at my house and called me at work with a quote. Very grateful to come home to a clear driveway and entryway, and glad I didn't have to start shoveling at 11pm! Dan was efficient and friendly, and I will absolutely be calling him again. THANK YOU, DAN!

I needed to have my garage painted and cabinets installed. The guys showed up on time and were very friendly, knowledgable and courteous. Their work was impeccable and they showed genuine concern for perfection. I also had a tile backsplash installed and my driveway pressure cleaned and both also were done perfectly. I will use them again in the future for upcoming projects and my husband and I highly recommend this company. Homeowners in Sanford, Fl.

Whenever it rains very hard or during thunderstorm, the water would come inside through driveway into garage since it was in slope, so I needed sump pump to install as soon as possible. They came right away. Whenever I asked them questions, they answered fully and gave ideas on how to make it better. I would definitely recommend Strongmen Waterproofing to others.

I received three quote's, MFS was very competitive. With their experience, previous work, recommendations and website, I felt comfortable hiring them for my 500 sq ft paver patio. Mark and his crew did an outstanding job start to finish. I asked for something unique in the design and his crew delivered with beautiful curves to enhance the look, this is time consuming and takes a talented eye, it looks great! The finished product looks awesome, on time, on budget. Professional landscaping at its best! Thanks Mark and crew, great job!

My husband and I have been home-owners for more than 35 years. This summer, Desire Construction cleaned up our backyard, extended our patio with pavers, and fixed a drain pipe. This was hands-down the best experience with a home contractor that we have ever had. Mr. Guimaraes responded promptly to our request for a quote. We had to wait several weeks while his company completed other jobs, but Mr. Guimaraes contacted us in advance of their start date. He came when he said he would, and his group worked hard and completed the job in a timely manner. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely hire him again.

Overall was very satisfied. The price was good value for a large replacement patio and fence. Bruno and his crew were all very friendly and responsive to trying to address my concerns. My yard presented challenges due to pitch of yard and some stump removal. They worked hard to make it work. Took longer then I expected but some delays were unavoidable due to weather and paving company not providing the right color mixture of pavers. And I was not in a hurry anyway. Bruno always got back to me on my questions and issues. Felt they were hard working and very honest.

Brent Morrissey is determined to satisfy his customers. Despite being busy he went out of his way to quickly meet with me to discuss the work and write up a quote. My new front walk is lovely and a joy to walk on. He started and finished the work when he said he would. The ground preparation was done properly, and attention was paid to get the grading right for a somewhat tricky transition from the front steps, over a large tree root to the driveway while ensuring water drainage was away from the house. The pavers were carefully installed as described by the manufacturer. Details matter; when using the polymeric sand, I noticed Brent first used a blower to ensure the pavers were dry and clean before wetting the sand. The world is not perfect and it's when the unexpectd happens that you find out what kind of person you're dealing with. Brent and crew are the best. The job was finished and Brent was onto his next job when a subcontractor retreiving his dumpster damaged an edge of my driveway. Brent and crew were right on it and returned promptly to set things right. His crew is very experienced and a pleasure to work with. Yes, I highly recommend Magnolia Site Works.

Installation of new 4x50 ft walkway and 30 feet of new stone wall. Included tear down of existing wall and walkway. Raphael and Jose were extremely professional, courteous, responsive and hard working throughout the entire job. They were flexible and worked with our selection of pavers (Unilock) and recommended the use of Nevada Stone for the facing of the wall which is beautiful. They were also responsive when I pointed out a couple of follow up areas when the job was complete. Overall, we are pleased with their work and would use them again.

We just had a yard clean-up done after having not attended to the yard since the fall. Solutions did an excellent job -- mowing, trimming trees, removing branches that had fallen due to storms, and cleaning up our driveway. Ronnie was very responsive and the work was done the day after I met with him. We are very pleased with the outcome and will hire him again.

Goody's has done several things at my house and I've always been very happy with the results! Darren mows the lawn but also put up a 6' fence for me last year (fencing in the back yard) and built a really nice paver patio for me two years ago. He's very responsive and I can always reach him on his cell when I need something. In the winter I usually snowblow my own driveway but during very bad storms I've asked him to plow for me and he's always willing to come by and help! I'd highly recommend Darren and Goody's!

Gary Senecal and his crew were awesome. I had no idea about concrete and what you could do with it. After a brief talk with Gary I realized I wanted stamped concrete. Never heard of that before but then when I realized that my patio didn't have to be boring grey concrete, it could "look" like cobbletsone or pavers or bricks I was like a kid in a candy store. I have to admit that I changed my mind a few times before settling on the cobblestone (Sorry Gary). Then of course I had to pick a color...........decisions decisions! I did get 3 other quotes and Gary was not the least expensive but after speaking with him I knew he had alot of experience. The other companies sent out someone that looked like they needed to be in an office and really didn't know what they were talking about. Even though they came in much less I truly believe in quality work especially when it is something that is permanent. I am very pleased with my patio and refer anyone that needs concrete to Gary. Thanks again Gary!

Jim has worked at my home for the last three years. Each year something a little different. The first two years he built both sets of my Brick/Granite Steps. Then next year he created a Walkway from my steps to my driveway, granite mailbox post and just recently built me a large Stone Patio with a Fire Pit. I have been so pleased with his work. He is great at visualizing the job to help me understand what will look best with colors, and types of stone. Jim is honest, professional, reasonably priced, and always is here to do the work. Thinking of my next project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
