At first glance, Jeremy from Simple Comfort seemed friendly and knowledgeable in his field, sadly that did not hold true in the end. He came to my home in August to do some AC maintenance on my 2 systems. He did fix one of the systems by adding about a pound of R22 to it, but he completely broke the second one. After stating that he would return the next day with additional hardware and equipment, he came back more than a week later. On his second visit, he still wasn't able to solve the problem (that he created), and rather than repair my AC, he offered numerous quotes to replace the entire HVAC system, stating that this would be more cost effective. He quoted me over $25,000 to replace just the system on the main floor of the house. This is after he had charged me $1,665 for the original service call where he broke my existing working system. I ended up shopping around for the same system from other larger HVAC companies, whose quotes all came in at the $14,000 to $16,000 range. One of these companies came over and actually fixed my existing system by undoing what Jeremy had done and removing the excess refrigerant Jeremy added, so now I don't need a new AC system. They are also wildly expensive, charging $294.77 per pound for R-22 (a roughly 1,000% markup!), they would not even consider a refund at all despite knowing that they were responsible for breaking my AC system. I would not recommend this company.

Simple Comfort's reply
As Heating and Air Conditioning professionals, most of us take a lot of pride in what we do. Those like Jeremy are highly trained and extremely honest in their efforts to fix broken systems. Being that we are a company that has a fix it first business model, the facts in this matter are very important. You failed to mention that the initial visit was on a 95 degree Sunday Afternoon and Jeremy took the time out of his day to come help you out. You were charged for that visit, and on that visit he found that both of your systems were already broken. 1 of them was immediately repaired by adding refrigerant. This is only a temporary repair. System 1 likely has a leak that will need to be found and repaired or the system replaced before any refrigerant can be added again. The second unit had a much larger problem (likely a clogged metering device). This was determined this by adding a small amount of refrigerant and when the pressure does not change its an indication of a metering device problem. The technician informed you that it was a larger problem that would take a larger repair. He indicated that a return visit would be required to further diagnose the second system and put refrigeration caps on both of your units because they were all missing and it was Sunday. When he come out the second time it was because you called in the late afternoon and said it was 90 in your home. It was after 6pm and He came right away to come help you out. At this visit he decided to attempt to clear the clog by overcharging the system (this was intentional and is a common practice on old systems with orifice or piston metering devices) . When after adding 3.5 lbs. of refrigerant he got no results he advised you that he could try to find a new metering device for your 20+ year old system and fix it or provide an estimate for new system. You indicated you wanted an estimate, so he stopped all work left the unit as (significantly overcharged) and finished his day. You were not charged anything for the second after hours visit or the 3.5 lbs. of R-22. The estimates were provided and you opted not to go with us because you were not happy with any of the 3 estimates you received. You had another contractor come out on a 65 degree day and he looked at your system. He removed exactly 3.5 lbs. of R-22. You indicated your system works great now (which would mean the initial visit fixed it which we know is not the case). You said the air coming out of the vents is 10 degrees colder now and its working right. Though I would say it is not because on an R-22 system it should be 18 degrees cooler, especially on a cold fall day. it only appears to be working great because it was a 65 degree day with no humidity and the system was not having to work to cool the air (like a car going down hill with a blown engine). The minute it gets hot again you will be searching for someone to come out on a Sunday to fix it again. We apologize for your dissatisfaction but just because you threaten to post bad reviews does not mean we will give you a refund for work that was properly performed. You were rightfully charged for the 1st visit, our lead technician did not break your already broken system. Furthermore. you were never charged for the second visit or the additional refrigerant that was added. I think that Jeremy and this company have been more than fair with you. We would have been more than happy to complete a repair that would have cost you less than installing a new system if we could get the parts, you chose to get estimates. We wish you the best in your endeavors with your system and hope that it is fixed and that replacement is not needed, but unfortunately the prognosis is not good and we will stand behind our technician as he is one of the best around.

Jeremy’s knowledge and experience are exceptional. He was able diagnose the issue and drafted a detailed write up of the issue and the recommended solutions. This helped in communicating with the Condo Board. He’s professional and I expect him to return to install the ez trap. I highly recommend Simple Comfort. Thanks again!
