What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I'm constantly learning new applications and techniques. It is said that 40% of a web architect's time is spent learning new skills.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was teaching college English and Humanities as an adjunct faculty member of a small college, and while I loved teaching, I was frustrated by the limited income. So in my spare time I studied HTML and started creating websites, first for myself and then for others.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Standing Stone Designs specializes in original website design and robust site development, including designing, building and maintaining sites for small businesses such as medical and law offices, WordPress blog hosting, and custom backend CMS options such as press release management, dynamic photo and video galleries, and events management.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The ongoing builds of the Telefunken-Elektroakustik.com website. Telefunken manufactures some of the highest quality microphones ever invented, and I have a great relationship with them. I am continually enhancing their site with new product pages, artists pages, and more. The design is clean and engaging.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask a lot of questions! Think about what you really want, not just buzzwords. Look at sites that you find appealing and think about why. Think about your audience: who do you want to reach? how can you reach them? Should you consider active Social Media as part of your program?
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
That I am a hard-working, skilled professional, but I enjoy relaxing and having a good time with activities like kayaking, hiking, and bicycling...after hours, of course.
