I purchased my first home earlier this year and Ivory and Bone has been absolutely instrumental in helping me transform the house into something that I love. I had never needed to buy quality furniture before and didn’t give much thought to the layout of my previous apartments. Just the thought of furnishing and designing an entire house on my own was daunting and overwhelming. Katie came in, got an idea of what I liked and what I didn’t – and then helped me make that a reality. She’s been involved in just about every single detail of the process – what color paint for each room, what type of sectional sofa to get, ideas for maximizing the back yard. She even helped me with remodeling decisions…before I even moved in. She’s creative, resourceful, responsive and most importantly easy to work with. I can honestly say that without her help, I wouldn’t be nearly as happy as I am with the way everything has turned out. Can’t recommend her enough!

I was more than halfway there with my paint, lighting, furniture, and accessories but my space didn’t feel quite “finished” –I needed a final step and I knew I couldn’t accomplish what I needed to by myself so I contacted Ivory and Bone for a consultation. My job wasn’t a big one, but Katie and E were so responsive and engaged and genuinely enthusiastic that I felt like their only client! Not only did they make very spot-on and thorough concept boards for me, they were absolutely lovely and professional to work with. I also recommend following their blog for more ideas and just for fun!

In a world with Pinterest, home decor magazines, and plenty of inspiration everywhere, it was great to have a focused plan for our home. We have three competing styles, mine, my husbands, and our Airdale. Katie did a great job in merging those three styles, giving ideas to bring in new elements all while keeping the house streamlined. Now when I am out shopping at a home store or even at a yard sale I now have a sense of what “fits” in my home. That’s a priceless gift!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I became an interior decorator because I always have had a talent for bringing "looks" together. Whether it was making over my grimy apartments when I was in my twenties, helping my friends decorate their first-time homes, or even hosting, there wasn't a time when I wasn't creating the "big picture." I love to be surrounded by beautiful objects, I find that it clears my mind. When I made this connection, I also realized that I get this same satisfaction when I decorate for others!I It was then that I decided to turn my passion into a career.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

My work is inspired by my Mom, she is my muse! She is a photographer from St. Croix and there are two things that are a constant in my aesthetic...1. A touch of tropical calmness and simplicity. 2. Photos, photos, and more photos!
