I just hired Sal to begin our wallpapering project. After speaking to several companies, I decided to go with Sal because of his professionalism, reviews and value. I'll be back when the project is complete to tell you how happy I am!

100% satisfied and would absolutely hire them again! We needed a very fast turn around for a full condo paint job. Within 1 day they did an onsite assessment, gave us a competitive quote, and started painting at 9am the next day (even with insurance cert required by our building). I checked in a couple times that first day and was really pleased with the progress and how well they prepped the place. They remembered all our little notes on what outlets/hardware should be removed and filled or left in place, left us with the extra materials and the place looks great!

Working with Ellen Pierce and Pierce Painting has been one of the happier experiences of my forty years in this century old house. Ellen came and estimated the work, which consisted of painting a number of rooms, including the kitchen, and a three story hallway, replacing several ceilings and the walls behind two important kitchen cabinets. Her crew was with us for nearly a month quietly working to get the work done with the minimum disruption to our lives. She brought in the specific crews for plastering and electric work that were needed along the way. They cleaned up after themselves every day and did the work painstakingly so that our punch list at the end was astonishingly short. Often she would see places that needed improvement when I didn’t. The cost was extremely reasonable given the scope of the work. I was particularly impressed with Ellen’s patience with our stuggle to come up with the right paint colors and willingness to go the extra mile when needed

Gregory removed some hellish layers of wallpaper border and painted several rooms in my home. Walls, ceilings and trim. He is very professional, likable, knowledgable and great at what he does. He also does a great job cleaning up. I highly recommend!

Thomas and his crew did a very professional job, and got it done early. They left the house very clean and very accommodating during our move, working around our furniture and boxes, and even went beyond the scope of work in repainting our baseboard heaters to match the trim. Highly recommend his services.

I do interior/exterior painting, repair, wallpaper removal, drywall taping, pressure washing, furniture refinishing (stain or paint), and color consulting. I have been doing this work for 15 years. I am a perfectionist and I guarantee my work to be of the best quality and I use the best products. A great paint job comes from what you put into the prep work. A new paint job will change the whole look and how you feel about your home. It makes it new again! I take much pride in my work making it the best it can be which in the end makes my customers happy. This assures me that I've done my best and to that, I know they will call me again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

  • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
  • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
  • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
  • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
  • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
  • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
  • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
  • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
