Counseling goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Beginning counseling for the first time or seeing a counselor who is new to you can be stressful, especially initially. I hope the information below will alleviate some concerns now that you are considering working with me. Although the next paragraph of information may seem obvious, it is so important that it is worth stressing. First, every client is entitled to respect as a human being, regardless of the issues or concerns they choose to discuss in therapy. Second, it is imperative that the therapist listens without judgment or any preconceived notions about the client. Third, I believe that the process of therapy should not be one where the client adheres to a preconceived notion of what or whom they should be, rather through self-exploration the client will discover in true sense who they are. I like my job and find it exciting. Issues of concern for people may feel overwhelming. But what I find exciting is seeing people make choices to improve their life situation. I like seeing when people find the strength within themselves to overcome adversity.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I love life but I believe we often keep busy so we don't have to be alone with ourselves. I think that's a shame. Sadness, fear, grief, shame and feelings of inadequacy, just to name a few, are so painful, people would rather do anything than be with the pain. That's not living fully. That's just existing. I want to people know themselves and learn to love or like who they are as a person. I am happy and honored when I can help people achieve that better sense of who they are.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

My advice to a client is to trust yourself, trust your intuition. Often clients know deep within what the answers are to their situations. Often, with the help of an objective, non judgmental, honest person, they can usually find their way.
