Rob has been able to help both my daughters excel in their High School AP classes. My one daughter travels for Ski Racing often and he has been able to fill in any gaps that she misses while traveling. We will definitely be using Rob to help with the college application process.Jan 16, 2021

Fathom Academics provided our daughter Olivia with the guidance and support that she needed during the most important and stressful part of her college application process. They took the time to truly understand her as a student and as a person and then patiently helped her craft genuine, authentic personal statements and essays for her applications. Olivia is now a freshman at UCLA and we will forever be grateful to Fathom Academics for the critical role that they played in her successful college application process. Thank you Rob and Fathom!Jan 13, 2021

My son has ADHD, and has struggled with school throughout the years. Rob came to help my son in his 9th grade. He helped tremendously with his organization, staying focused with homework, talking out problems and so much more. My son made honor roll for the first time with Rob’s help. He was extremely helpful in my son’s life.Jan 17, 2021

We are very fortunate to have found Rob Shaw. He is clearly brilliant, (with a degree in Neuroscience from Middlebury), But it's his patience teaching, and his extensive, unusually deep knowledge of all the subjects that was so impressive. The kids just love him. He brings out their curiosity! They want to study! And the grades just keep going up!Jan 12, 2021

Rob is outstanding with teenagers. He is both highly qualified and super calm. He's able to get our 11th grader to focus on the steps needed to get into school, rather than overly stress or ignore things she could be doing. I couldn't recommend him more highly.Jan 12, 2021
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? For tutoring and test-prep I charge $80/hr for in-person sessions and $60/hr for online sessions. For college application essay counseling I charge $120/hr for in-person sessions and $100/hr for online sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When it comes to tutoring, we dive right into the student's work and I quickly assess what understanding or skills the student is lacking. From there, I break down concepts and teach new information in a manner tailored to the student's personality and learning style. For college application essay counseling, the student and I brainstorm events from the student's life to outline an anecdotal story that demonstrates the student's best characteristics. Then we edit the language to make sure it is clear and powerful and transports the reader into the experience of the student.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?In regard to tutoring, I have been tutoring math and writing since I was in high school. I graduated with a liberal arts degree with a focus on neuroscience and writing. I worked for one year with Tahoe Tutoring, a tutoring company in Incline Village, Nevada, before starting my own independent business. I have been enjoying tutoring and essay counseling independently ever since, now 4 years!
