FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Not complicated at all - I charge by the hour or by the page, depending on the nature of the work. I can also do a project fee (based on an estimate of hours, which I'll provide to the client). As mentioned earlier, I am open to retainer arrangements.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I subscribe to an e-newsletter for freelance writers and have a mentor (my former boss in the financial services company where I used to work).
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Before I started freelancing back in 1994, I was a copywriting manager at the in-house agency of a financial services company. I was the one who interviewed, hired, and managed freelance writers, editors, and proofreaders. They seemed like they had the best of both worlds: interesting work AND independence. I've never regretted becoming a freelancer and I love being my own boss. Some of my clients have actually become close friends, which is one of the unexpected benefits of this career.
