FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have always been a firm believer that in the ever changing needs and trends of the renovation and remodeling market place our customers cannot be served if we do not continue to educate ourselves about new products and manufacturers solutions to challenges which occur in the remodeling industry. For example; in the past two years beginning with March of 2010 I certified to "Renovate Right" with the EPA, a new credential required to legally remodel, renovate, remove and safely discard lead paint from homes pre 1978. Prior to that in 2009, I completed my certification from NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) for the successful completion of a "GREEN" sustainable remodeling contractor.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I am a 4th generation carpenter/builder. I grew up on the job sites working side by side with my dad and two older brothers. Our family hails from Massachusetts since 1911 when my Polish ancestors arrived in Hingham to farm the land. Shortly thereafter in the roaring 20's they began building houses and settled in the Natick area where our family built and lived providing new homes and building services in the Metro West suburban areas.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Economics drives the remodeling market place. Over the last two years our jobs have been more closely tied to customers' needs rather than their desires. In the South Coast areas including the South Shore of Boston and the Mid and Upper Cape Cod areas which make up our market place we are finding most folks would like to know the cost of new room additions, Attic conversions, dormers, kitchens and garages to plan and budget for these projects, but the immediate needs of deteriorated and rotted exterior doors, windows and decks are the priority. The federal Energy Tax Credit due to expire December 31, 2010 has also been a help in our installed entry door and window business, I let folks know they can "give themselves a tax break" this year.
