Elin designed a creative program to help my 9 year old son prepare for his martial arts tournaments. My son definitely made improvements in his strength, agility and stamina. Elin was also able to fine tune his kicking and blocking skills since he has experience in various self defense/fighting skills. Elin is quick to respond to emails/text/calls and has tremendous knowledge in the art of exercise, bodybuilding and nutrition. I highly recommend Elin and his team for anyone looking for a professional personal trainer.

My experience with XStrengthSpeed has been challenging and well worth the investment! Several of my health challenges have been reversed, my range of motion is better from an old injury and my doctor is well pleased with my progress to date. Xavier is a coach, motivator and athlete all in one. He genuinely cares about his clients and makes every effort to accommodate my demanding schedule. He checks in regularly to find out if I am resting properly or eating well to meet my goals. If you are looking to change your body, get healthy or change your quality of life, I highly recommend XStrengthSpeed!

I have just recently started my weight loss journey with Mr. Byrd and I have to say he is hands down the best! He pays attention to my needs and is ALWAYS there to give me the motivation I need. It has only been a month and a half and I have lost almost 20 pounds and toned up areas I once felt so self conscious about! He is very professional and always on time. I highly recommend him

I’ve been taking self defense lessons with Anthony for about 3 months now and it has been great. He breaks down movements and explains things in a way that’s easy for a beginner to understand, and is great at tailoring workouts to my needs. I work in an emergency room where patients often become violent, and Anthony takes situations I’ve seen or my co-workers have seen and shows me how to defend myself. You can tell from your first session with Anthony that he not only is an expert in what he does, but that he loves what he does. He makes working out fun. I leave our sessions completely exhausted, as he works you hard for the full time. He’s also great at working around my crazy schedule. I enjoy our sessions so much I’ve been passing out his business cards to all my work friends!

I took 10 self-defense classes with Anthony and it was an amazing learning experience and workout. He took the time to make sure all our techniques were solid and then built on that, regardless of skill level. He let the class run away with the fun occasionally but other than that, his classes were everything I was hoping for.

Christian Noll so skillfully injects humor into every training session that you might not realize how much you've learned until you're done for the day. Since starting at Arundel Aikikai 10 months or so ago, I have not had a single bad experience. The more advanced students never begrudge working with a beginner, instead helping to further enhance the good instruction that Christian provides. The environment is low-pressure so that I've never felt bad for having trouble with a technique or not remembering something from a previous session. At the same time, I feel like I'm learning a lot in every lesson. I would definitely recommend taking aikido here, no matter who you are or where you are in life.

This is not a typical self-defense class. This is a re-training of my mind to better understand the physical forces at work, so I can then retrain my body to respond in a most efficient way. I am already feeling more empowered and in charge of my body. This is flowing over to my mind as I begin to take more control over decisions I make and relationships I am in. This is a self-defense class for my entire being- not just my body.

Exciting stuff, Christan is an awesome teacher, and everyone has an all around fun time! I've been attending Arudel Aikikai classes for about three years now, and for one, I can say my confidence has definitely increased. If you don't at least give this class a try, you're missing for sure!

Joshua is a phenomenal teacher and fighter of BJJ, Kickboxing and MMA. He tailors to your specific strengths and weaknesses, so that you get maximum value out of each class. He focuses on technique, fighting concepts, conditioning all the while ensuring you have fun during the process. Learning is everything here and he encourages self-filming or bringing in a partner to train with at no extra charge. The gym in a good shape, with all the necessary equipment and padding you would associate with MMA gyms. Joshua is constantly making improvements to the gym to keep it competitive and in good condition. He has many different types of classes and he is very flexible. It is no wonder why he has such a following, his knowledge and sincerity is rare in this industry.

Evan is the lead instructor of NOVA Self Defense. NOVA Self Defense teaches Personal Defense Readiness (PDR). It's a very hands on interactive class that teaches you to channel your natural instincts into a productive weapon against potential threats. Unlike martial arts, you do not need to know serious complex movements. Evan is very hands on and he is very compentent on the subject matter. He will break down every movement and provide the reasoning/rational for the specific movement. Then by the end of the class he allows you to practice everything you learn - - Evan or his colleague, Scott, strap into high gear and you literally get to practice everything you learn, full force, during a high adrenaline senario. It's practical and literally increased my confidence with the subject matter. Both guys have a great attitude and a good sense of humor, which helps if you feel awkward doing the moves the first time. A class can last up to an hour and I know NOVA SD does seminars and lectures for up to 3 hours. I ultimately think this is a great class for teenagers and families. You never know what can happen and it is smart to be prepared and be aware of your resources.

I went into this class with a general interest in self-defense but not knowing what to expect. By the end, it was well worth my time to do four sessions over four nights. A few things stand out from my experience that make me comfortable recommending it to all others. First, Evan clearly has a deep knowledge of the field and ability not just to answer any question but to help you see rationale and develop your own self-defense mindset. Second, Evan's emphasis is on simple, functional defense based on easily-learned movements rather than complicated techniques that would require more than four sessions to learn and execute properly. He started simple and in just four classes built confidence and provided a toolbox to build from moving forward. Third, Evan is great at scaling the instruction and execution to match individual students' level of experience. I was in a class with total beginners (like me) mixed in with more experienced students and never felt uncomfortable thanks to Evan's ability to keep everybody engaged and learning. Altogether a great experience and look forward to working with Evan again in the future.

I just completed a class with NOVA Self Defense and had a great experience working with them. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and had a way of explaining techniques that made it easy to understand. I walked away with a solid understanding of not only how to avoid dangerous encounters, but also how to handle myself if I am attacked. I would (and already have) recommend taking their courses. I know Alex for couple years as a talented and skilled martial arts professional and also a great fitness instructor. Both self and my son are trained by him at Master Lee's Martial Arts Taekwondo school of Sterling,VA. We are very happy we met him so he explained and helped a lot to be well-trained and feel much better about many things. He always provides easy to follow techniques with related explanations, advises and hand-on demonstratoinons. Greatly recommended! Outstanding instructor/professional!

This was my first Thumbtack experience so I did not know what to expect. I called Alex and booked an initial meeting for a self defense class. I was so impressed with his knowledge and ability to teach to me (someone with absolutely no experience in self defense) that I hired him immediately. I would recommend him in a minute, I can't explain how much fun each training is while at the same time also getting a tailored workout as well as learning useful and practical skills!!

Alex did some personal training and self defense sessions for myself and two teenage children. He brought equipment and was very knowledgeable about strength training, different abilities, and self defense techniques. It was great to be able to workout at home and with my older kids. We hope to resume classes with him later this summer.

I've been training with Julien about two years now. It began as an at home training experience, and sometimes we would meet at the gym and do some weight training. Many times we worked out at a local park. I've enjoyed working out with Julien because of the sometimes unorthodox exercises that he would do. I lost a lot of weight working with him, and increased my 5k race pace. I enjoy that he draws inspiration from many disciplines such as yoga, meditation, martial arts, weight training, parkour, etc. I think if he had his own gym in a centrally located place it would be awesome. In his gym, he could have jungle-gym inspired equipment in addition to weight training equipment, so we could have a gym (indoors) that would support his style of training. As he grows, perhaps this is what will happen one day :)

Julien is a very understanding trainer, I felt very comfortable while I was working out with him. He explained explicitly what the various types of exercises would do for me, especially cause I needed to improve on my strength and flexibility. Communication is great, as he checks up on my daily health routine. So far, I am pleased.

Hey Mr B!! We miss you!!! YES!!!! I recommend training with Mr Hercules. I met Mr Hercules one night in Phnom Penh coming from the club when I saw him defend himself against 3 chaps WHILE HE WAS DRUNK!! When I learned that he trains and teaches martial arts I had to sign up with him. The training with Mr Hercules was intense and very knowledgeable. I think anyone who is looking for a good teacher in martial arts who knows what he is talking about should check Mr Hercules out. You will not be wasting your money!!

Brian did a great job tailoring a self-defense class for my daughter and me. My daughter had only 2 days before moving to New York to take this class, so Brian had to cram as much information and practice into two sessions as he could. He did a great job and both my daughter and I feel more confident about our self-defense capabilities.

When I met breelaun, I had just stepped foot into a gym for the very first time in 19 years!! I didn't have the motivation, was very self-conscious, and was very intimidated by the machines. breelaun didn't make me feel like a big out of shape loser. He is very patient, and knowledgeable on fitness & nutrition. He's super laid back and not your typical "military" style trainer. Don't get me wrong, there were times I whined & said I was tired, & he'd let me rest for a little (like 1 minute) lol & get back to working out .Most important, I was very comfortable with him. I am very happy I made the choice of getting training w/breelaun & have made major changes in my lifestyle.breelaun is the best. Very serious about getting you to achieve your personal best while maintaining a fun environment. It's important to enjoy your workouts and breelaun makes sure that you have a good time. !!!! Thanks BREE BREE ;)
