- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
For card processing: I. Know the difference between a direct provider and a reseller. (there are only 11 direct providers in the country and the other 7,000 options your find out there (including banks and COSTCO) are resellers &/or brokers -- who simply add to overhead and frustrate service delivery. II. For payroll: 1. Bait and switch is common. Get your pricing guaranteed in writing. 2. Require indemnity. Without it, you'll be left alone to fight the IRS or the state of (wherever you live) in the event of a payroll tax issue. That's money and time you likely can't afford to lose.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
That it's one of the last remaining unregulated financial services industries in the country. Shopping in the "wild, wild west" of payment processing requires that you do your homework. It's NOTHING like buying a refrigerator or a TV.
