- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin by learning of my new student's desires and goals in their musical journey. Instrumental Students: We discuss their current level of knowledge in their desired field, that will offer me an idea of what method book would work for best for them. Instrumentals will learn the art of their instrument along with specific techniques and music theory that will open a world of creativity. Vocal Students: I get to know my vocals with simple 5 note scales that will reveal their current vocal range. Then I broaden their horizons with an enlightened adventure into their vocal anatomy and exercises that will increase their strength and vocal potentialities.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 25 years of musical experience. In my early years, I graduated from the renowned High School Of Music and Art and Performing Arts in New York City. Prior to graduating, I was awarded with various summer music scholarships, to further my training and knowledge. I later attended the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. As an adult, I performed live in popular New York City venues that included the The Copacabana, Willie’s Steakhouse, and Tito Puente’s Restaurant (hired by the legendary Mr. Puente himself). I later recorded with Grammy Award winner, Bobby Rodriguez y la Compañía and appeared on International Television's Telemundo. This appearance allowed me the privilege to not only perform live, but interview with Nano Cabrera, the popular Show Host in San Jan, Puerto Rico. In 1994, I was featured in Vea Magazine as a new and upcoming artist. Our percussion specialist is Mr. Charlie Salinas. He has been playing professionally for over 40 years. He has performed around the world, Japan, South America, Africa, etc. During one of his tours, he was invited by Maurice White: founder of Earth, Wind & Fire, to sit in and play with the legendary musicians at The Jackie Robinson Foundation Concert. Mr. Charlie’s unique techniques have attracted many institutions and conservatories including The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz where he was invited to lecture on his cool maneuvers on Latin beats. He has also been invited to introduce his methods at the professional development workshops of the NYC Dept. Of Education He has recorded various albums with many musicians, including Bobby Rodriguez y la Compañia where they received a Grammy for the Album “Número 6”. He teaches many rhythm styles. Including, jazz, blues, rock, hip hop, African rhythms, Latin rhythms and more. Many of Mr. Charlie students have gone on to receive scholarships in renowned music schools and colleges. And others have gone on to professional gigs around the world!
