Gabe was very personable both on the phone and on the day of our wedding. He was quick to respond to any inquiries, suggested places for the ceremony/shoot, and got the digital prints to us within the time quoted. Most important, he made us feel really comfortable throughout the process and got some beautiful shots of our special day. I would recommend The Marvelous Real to anyone looking for a quality photographer for an intimate occasion.

Gabe was such a joy to work with! He was really energetic and funny, which helped us relax in front of the camera and have a good time. The photos are beautiful and a great mix of posed shots and more natural photojournalistic-style pictures. We got some cute little polaroids that same day, and the rest of the album in less than a week. I'm so glad we hired him and have these wonderful photos to remember our elopement by!

I was looking for a photographer for one of the most important and anxious moments of my life, and with less than 48 hrs to plan and execute. I wanted candid photos of me proposing to my future wife. I am actually from St. Louis, but needed a photographer in DC - and I needed a professional that could nail these shots the first time.
If you are looking for a photographer, I very strongly recommend going with Gabe. Not only did he return beautiful shots that our family and friends are still talking about, he was completely responsive and 100% reliable. Gabe worked with me throughout the entire process to make sure that we were on the same page, so that we could accomplish this surprise engagement scenario together. He was able to capture shots without revealing the surprise moment, but was able to get wonderful pictures. Gabe produced quality images that we will cherish our entire lives - and he nailed it the first time.

Gabe was excellent and was exactly what we were looking for. He was professional, very responsive, and easy to work with. We hired Gabe to do photography for our wedding and reception, and we could not have asked for a better experience. He was by far the most cost effective quote that we had gotten, and he was a thorough professional throughout the experience. He understood exactly what we needed from the pictures and followed through and delivered exactly what we needed. He was great with our guests, and they really enjoyed interacting with him (may of them have indicated that they will be reaching out to him for future engagements). He made them feel comfortable, without making them feel awkward, and even got a lot of our guests who are somewhat camera shy to feel at ease. You can tell he enjoys what he is doing and interacting with people to make them smile. The photos themselves turned out great. Overall I would highly recommend Gabe to anyone who is looking for a great photographer who not only delivers great pictures but is fun to be around.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do not. Each job is different, and I think I need to understand what a customer needs before quoting a price.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It all starts with a chat. I really think of myself as a storyteller, but I can't tell a story if I don't know the customer who I am working with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My background was as a writer first, but a few years ago, I was teaching in San Francisco's Mission District, and I was writing about disconnected youth whose families were being pushed out by rampant gentrification. Filmmaker friends encouraged me to pick up a camera, and to help train me to tell those young people's stories, these friends started hiring me to be a second shooter for weddings and events. I can't say I am self-taught because those friends taught me a lot of what I know.
