Introduction: Three simple words describe why I love being a residential interior designer: 1) PEOPLE: I really enjoy working with people and getting to know who they are, how they live, and what works for them best as the interact in the built environment. 2) HOME: There is something so comforting about feeling like you are at home somewhere, even if it is not your own space. I love creating spaces that people, not only the clients, feel comfortable in. 3) MEMORIES: Spaces hold memories as a family grows, new discoveries are made, and events occur inside the walls of our homes. I love creating spaces and dreaming about what memorable holidays will be celebrated there in the presence of my clients most valuable players.

My husband and I moved to Maine a year and a half ago into a home that had a large guest apartment above our garage. We knew the place had tremendous potential but just didn't have the time, energy, or the creativity to turn it into a lovely space with it's own unique style. Our goal was to turn it into a revenue-generating space via renting it on Airbnb. At the suggestion of my sister-in-law, I hired Emily for a 2 hour consult. She looked at not only the apartment but also our home and gave us numerous simple suggestions for how to improve the flow and aesthetics of our house. Following that I enlisted Emily's help to completely overhaul the apartment above our garage. She was AMAZING! She first did a complete inventory of the space and our existing hodgepodge of furniture/art/books/accessories. After working out what we felt was a reasonable budget we turned Emily loose to find and purchase all of the remaining pieces we needed to round out the apartment. She did a fantastic job. She showed up with a truckload of stuff, all purchased at very reasonable prices and turned the apartment into a cheery, beautiful, and well-decorated space. Within two weeks of listing the apartment on Airbnb, we've already had two guests book visits. I can't wait to enlist Emily's services for some more substantial projects down the road--like our kitchen redesign in a few years!

Emily is a talented designer. She truly gets to know her clients and their styles and incorporates that with her own expertise into a plan that makes sense for all. You can tell from the way she approaches her work that she's an artist, a traveler, and a mom, all parts practical, whimsical and with a touch of the unexpected. FAQs

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been an artist, drawing, creating, and crafting from a young age. My under graduate degree was in Elementary Education with a minor in Studio Art. I can recall rearranging my room often as a child and teenager. After many years of teaching in the outdoor industry, I decided to pursue my passion of design by enrolling in the Boston Architectural Centers, Masters of Interior Design program. After many years of helping friends with their apartments, and redesigning my parents house, I realized that I could translate my love of the arts into a career. Almost 10 years later, I have a MID and my own interior design practice!
