FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
When taking on a new engagement, I typically bill by the hour or I set a fixed fee I will charge. It depends on the engagement and the number of hours I estimate will be involved. Many times, I will take large discounts on first year clients because their is start-up time on their work that involved getting familiarized with the client and setting up information in the tax software, etc.. What is important to know is that I am fair and reasonable in my pricing and am more interested in the long-term relationship than the short-term profit.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I sit down with the client in a free consultation and learn about them and their business. I think it is most important develop rapport with a client. In my accounting practice, a client is not just a number but more like a business partner. I help them with their tax and accounting issues and not only help them hopefully save money on their taxes but also help them achieve profitability for their business.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I majored in accounting at the University of Texas at Dallas and I became a CPA in 1997. I worked with my father who was a partner with Deloitte Touche (now Deloitte) for a number of years before he retired. I have also worked with larger firms in both North Haven, CT and Portland, ME that has added to my depth of experience and have worked both preparing and reviewing tax returns and other higher level functions with other CPA firms, not just my own. I also take at a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education every year.
