Nick was hired to check a non-working water heater & replaced the worn out coupling in no time. He also installed a new ceiling light socket, upgraded the existing wall switch, hung the light fixture & hung 3 additional ceiling light fixtures in other rooms. He is very pleasant to have in your home - respectful & friendly. Of course he is a very competant electrician! You hire a tradesman to do good work for a fair price - when they turn out to be nice as well, it's a real bonus! Give Nick your every consideration. We already have him booked to do additional work in our home & he is now "on -call" when needed for work at our commercial building for both plumbing & electrical jobs.

Tom patched a couple of holes in the drywall in my bathroom ceiling. His price was reasonable, he was prompt, and cleaned up after himself. What's not to like. If the need arises I will definitely call Tom again.

Jameson and a couple of his guys came out and removed a skylight, patched the roof, closed in and repairs the damaged ceiling and then repainted everything to match. Job was done quickly and professionally, all the while working with our weird schedule. Would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

We were trading out a ceiling fan for a chandelier in our dining room. My husband had the fixture wired and installed but it did not work. We called Matt and he determined that there was a loose wire and had it up and working in no time. Matt determined the problem with our outlets in our basement and had them fixed quickly. We will use his services in the future and definitely will recommend him to our family and friends. He is a very nice guy.

We had really wonderful working with Kent. Had several very old outlets refreshed and cleaned up with new plates and the ceiling lamp ( and its control ) also replaced. Kent was very detailed oriented and took the time to get the parts we did not have in the house. We felt really good that we found someone that we can work with on things around the house. Definite highly recommend his service !

Robert and Jack were very quick to respond to questions and concerns. The interaction that I had with their team was pleasant and they seemed to be respectful of the job and my property. The new roof looks great and the new ceiling and flooring in the porch is awesome. I will definitely keep this company in mind for future improvements and recommend them to family and friends with no hesitation.

John is one of the newest and most considerate people you will ever meet. After cainh several people to do a repair job (ice dam issue) some who evwn came out and took measurements, John was the only one to follow through like he said he would. Not only did he fix my ceiling, but also fixed some additional things her found wrong. I would (and have) recommend John for anything thiat needs to be fixed!

Mr. Morris completed 4 jobs for me covering a three month period. 1) Involved rennovating my enclosed back porch by putting in a ceiling, removed/replaced surrounding screens & door, removed/repaired wood frames, installed electric wiring & put in a ceiling fan/light for first time, painting of woodframes, sealing bottom base bricks, and fixing gutters. Excellent job. 2) Installed gutters on garage for rain off, re-roofed garage & installed ventilation at top of roof. Well done! 3) Installed gutter brackets, repaired damage wood, repaired & fixed front house gutters for rain off. 4) Re-balancing of garage beams and adjusted tracks of garage door to prevent jamming or inconsistency of door opening or closing. All jobs were pre-appraised, with an estimate delivered within several days. Mr. Morris was very professional , detailed & courteous in explaining each job, cost, and timeframes. He exceeded all my expectations, in quality, timeliness, & proficiency, completing each job ahead of schedule. He cleaned up each area after completion of job very well. Partial monies paid up front and balance of bill not due until I did a walk thru & stated satisfaction of work done. I have told Mr. Morris that I will be retaining his phone number in my directory for future home repairs and have no concerns about referring him to my neighbors because of his professionalism and the quality of his work.

Bill was very friendly and listened to everything we wanted in our bathroom remodel. He was very timely and worked the entire time he was at the house. He gave us a beautiful new master bath! The tile work was high quality and we worked together to customize a few features such as a unique recessed shelf in the shower. Overall, Bill and his helper were great! They even went above and beyond with patching our kitchen ceiling where the old master bath had leaked through.

This guy does a great job, and gets the job done quickly. No waiting or wondering if he's going to show up or finish the job. I had him install a garage ceiling and heater, and was so impressed I recently had him install a back sliding door on the back of my house. I highly recommend accurate home improvements.

Brian painted the living room, dining/kitchen and hallway. Then he replaced all the ceiling and baseboard moldings. He added a central moulding down the long hallway. He did an excellent job. These rooms look great. I am very happy with the results. He also created a stone step at my side door which looks beautiful and works great.

We needed work done and in a timely manner. We were finishing our basement and needed a bar installed, a bathroom with tile and ceilings done to finish this. Also some special lighting. Everything turned out so beautifully. We could not be more happy with the finished product and would definitely recommend this company. I felt the pricing quoted for the quality and craftsmanship I was looking for was fair and reasonable. I will use this company again!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

    What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

    • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
    • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
    • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
    • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
