FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The bidding process can be tricky. I generally will meet with a client and ask as many questions as I can to get a sense for the project. Clients often remark how different the quotes are that they have gotten. I think that is generally due to the experience of the builder to ask the right questions. I like to find out what my client's final goals are, talk about material finishes and work backwards. There are many ways to accomplish a project, so getting "apples to apples" quotes is very important.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I try to keep up on the latest materials. Often vendors will host informational meetings about their products. We attend when we can. I think some of the most impressive developments are advances in paint and green building practices. Paint has come so far over the past 5 years with greater coverage, durability and VOC levels.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I worked with my uncle in Philadelphia rehabbing old brown stones. I fell in love with reviving a tired house, and modernizing it.
