Jessica has been my 6 year old grand-daughter's riding instructor, as well as her pony's trainer. What a combination she had to work with: a green horse/pony and a green 6 year old. Amazingly, both of them are coming along and Bailey is now riding Snickers on lead. This is something I never thought would happen so soon and without many more problems for both of them. Jessica is a great teacher with patience, guidance, and knowledge. She is able to bring even the most off-task rider and horse back to attention with gentle persuasion. She teaches more than just riding as my grand-daughter is able to groom, bridle, saddle, and understand her horse from all she has worked on. There is more to owning a horse than just riding. I adore her and can not thank her enough for what she has accomplished. I will follow her, lesson and training-wise, where ever she goes.
This has been a dream come true. Todd is so easy to work with! Can't wait until next week!

I am recently certified by the CHA as Level 3 English with Jumping and Level 2 Western. I have experience in dressage, event, and hunter/jumper with a focus in a balanced horse and rider combination. I also have some experience in training through a natural horsemanship method with inexperienced horses.

We provide guided trail rides, common sense horsemanship, and horse boarding. All trail rides are by reservation only. Please call ahead Check our new website
It is very difficult to find a classical instructor in Michigan. I studied in Maryland with Kathleen Harjess and Erik Herbermann. As competition dressage gains popularity, so do training shortcuts that are supposed to help the horse and rider get further faster but instead can cause serious damage to the horse and are not applicable in other contexts. Most instructors teach you how to ride their horses for their discipline. This can still be a wonderful experience for many students and enables them to build confidence- but it is not always safe for the rider and is infrequently safe for the horse's long-term health. I train riders to communicate to the horse and then allow the horse to respond in such a way that it encourages the horses to give a different level of performance to their riders. The horses become willing participants and even the crankiest old horse when ridden correctly will find a bounce in his step that was never there before. I love watching a student/rider team become beautiful together. It is like a living sculpture that takes a very long time to sculpt and requires the collaboration of horse, rider, and instructor. I love teaching people how to become good horsewomen and men as opposed to just nice riders. I hanker after the moment when each student meets his/her first goal and becomes hooked on horsemanship as a lifestyle.
