To whom it may concern, I was asked to write a review on our service provider Business Security Managers out of Farmington Hills, MI. While I can’t disclose my direct employer and the details of the case, I can give my honest opinion on the service we were provided. I work with a well-known transportation company that provides transportation of shipping goods across the country through the use of 18-wheeler trucks. My job is to track shipments and know what truck is being used and where that truck should be going. (Logistics) We had a few incidents in which we suspected that some of the drivers were stealing off the trailers and reselling those items on the internet. When this happens, our customers fill out an insurance claim as the items generally are insured. However, with so much of this stuff coming up “missing” our claims have gone up substantially. With our suspicion of theft occurring, we contacted Business Security Managers for help. This company deployed a handful of investigators who would follow the trucks discreetly from their pick-up location to their final destinations. Their investigation concluded that not only were the drivers stealing from the loads, but the drivers were also violating DOT regulations while on their routes. With their investigation results we were able to terminate 13 drivers and secure a criminal conviction on 4 drivers. Business Security Managers did a fantastic job and helped us reduce our loss by about $3.5 Million. We will continue to do business with Business Security Managers. We just recently got them in touch with our human resources dept. in which they are now performing pre-employment screenings on potential hires. Though I do not operate in that department, I hear they are doing fantastic as to be expected. We are happy with the service provided and we would recommend this company to anyone.

We hired CIS to investigate a very complex matter. A matter that our local law enforcement authorities seemed incapable of performing to our satisfaction. Mike's hands on investigative techniques proved exceedingly fruitful. I highly recommend CIS and Mike Ivezaj to anyone seeking a true professional and veteran investigator. B.B.

Working with a Retired DEA agent turned P.I. at the beginning of my career helped to set the stage to find the facts & truth for my clients. The goal for Supersonic Safety Research, DBA Investigations is to become the premier P.I. firm in the Detroit, Michigan area. DAPS is dedicated to the study, observation and documentation of ghosts and haunted locations in the metro Detroit and surrounding areas. As a group, we support our community by conducting investigations, free of charge. Things that go bump in the night might not just be a bump at all; that's when we are called in to figure things out. We will soon be organizing field trips, tours and investigations of historical buildings where the proceeds will go directly to a chosen charity and different restoration funds. Keep checking back for updates containing video, pictures, interviews with your favorite paranormal investigators and EVPs (electronic voice phenomena). We are official members of The Ghost Adventure Crew who are seen every Friday at 9:00 p.m. on The Travel Channel, and we look forward to serving the great state of Michigan and other surrounding states in their search for the truth. If you want us to investigate a home, business or any other location, feel free to send us an e-mail. Detroit Area Paranormal Society looks forward to hearing from you.

Great Lakes Paranormal Investigators (aka GLPI) was established in November 2008 by founders Kevin Lewis and TJ Rennie. We started this to help people who may have a paranormal staying with them in their business or home. We take the scientific approach towards paranormal activity. We go into a place, investigating to disprove the haunting. If one does this, plus they have an evidence that can't be explained, then they are left with what may be some paranormal activity. We won't be making up false evidence for a business to be able to use for marketing. We love what we do. We're very professional with all our cases, and we would never charge someone who is needing our help or even someone wanting to find out if something is really living with them. If ever you need assistance in any way or just want to know what's happening in your place, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can leave us messages in here or e-mail us. We are helping people understand/live with paranormal.

I am a small but effective company with lots of resources. My specialties include, but are not limited to, surveillance, missing persons, workman's compensation, divorce, and process serving. Get what you are looking for at a reasonable rate.

Got ghosts? We can help free of charge. We are a team dedicated to helping people who believe they are experiencing a paranormal Activity, and our services are free, from beginning to end. There are no hidden fees; some clients insist on paying us, and for those customers, we will accept donations, but they are not required. We just want to help, and in the process hopefully find out what's really out there. As soon as you contact us, we start working on your case with research, and then we arrange a meeting, so you will know upfront who will be coming into your home or business. We interview you and anyone else that may be involved in witnessing the activity in the place the investigation will take place, and then we contact the other members of the group and get several dates we are all available then we let you know the dates and let you decide when the investigation will take place, which is usually at night. While we have done daytime investigations, it is almost always on a Saturday night, and we do ask that the client leave the premises during the investigation, although if you want to stay, you can help man the monitors, but we do not allow the clients to investigate with us except in rare instances. This process can take a few weeks, so be aware of that. If it is an emergency, and you want a smudging or cleansing, we can do that. Usually, after we meet with a client, the activity ramps up and almost always after the investigation, and it takes a couple of weeks before we can go over all of the evidence and get back to you with the results, as we all have jobs. There is also no fee for the results. A lot of groups offer free investigations then charge for the results even if there isn't any. We do not do this. We do ask that you do not tell anyone about the investigation until it is over to cut down on onlookers and possible outside contamination of evidence. We look forward to hearing from you.

We only want to help you learn to live and/or work in your current surroundings.

We offer: general investigations, skip tracing, witness locates/interviews, asset location, process service, court filings, background investigations, trademark infringement, and child custody/divorce investigations.

We are experts in surveillance, especially difficult situations and hard-to-follow individuals. We offer GPS trackers, background investigations, and asset checks. We offer process services and locate services as well. Where we shine is that all of our investigators are former or current law enforcement officers with the best in local, state and federal training and experience. We formed this business out of passion for what we do, not a need to make a buck.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a private investigator do?

First and foremost, good private investigators follow laws. Unlike on TV, they don’t break in windows or hack into hospital computer systems to get you intel. When you hire a private investigator, you’re hiring a professional to gather facts and find information for you. Although they can’t obtain certain information (such as health records), they do have access to information that most civilians do not. Often private investigators are hired to perform surveillance or background checks or investigate cases such as adultery, child custody, missing persons, hidden assets, or debugging, and theft or other crimes.

Private investigators can be hired to interview people and provide that information to the client, perform photo or video surveillance, monitor activity at a location where you suspect criminal activities or questionable behavior, track a person’s movements, find missing people, do deep-dive background checks, and more. Private investigation can be helpful if you’re trying to get a court order but need evidence. Private investigators can also help find birth parents. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210 per hour.

What does a private investigator cost?

Private investigation isn’t just for blockbuster action movies. Hiring a private investigator can help in all kinds of situations ranging from finding a birth parent to improving personal security. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210, although pricing often hovers between $40 and $100 depending on the complexity of the services you need. Where you live in the country will affect your costs for private investigation; larger cities have higher business overhead and a higher cost of living, which in turn means higher service rates. The complexity of your case can also affect cost. A basic background check may have a flat rate, while hiring a private investigator to help with your child custody case may require more legwork and research, and therefore cost more. Some private investigators work on retainer. A retainer is essentially a nonrefundable deposit you pay to the professional — meaning you have retained their services — who then works against that amount. Here are some examples of average private investigation costs:

  • Hourly rate: $60-$70; costs can vary based on current fuel prices.
  • Flat rate: $100 for comprehensive background investigation services.
  • Retainer: $1,500 minimum retainer required by some pros before starting work.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
