Introduction: I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010.
I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be.
I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from.
As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals.
The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!
