The Jaztronauts are true musicians, in the best sense of the word. The music was excellent, the service was great, and they are just plain nice people. Jason always got back to me in a timely fashion and answered all my questions. On the day of, they were set up well ahead of when guests started arriving. They started and stopped playing exactly on time, and were always friendly and flexible if we wanted them to play a certain song at a different time than originally planned. Then there's the music. These guys are great musicians. My brother-in-law is a professional musician, not easily impressed, and he was definitely impressed—and even if you know nothing about music, you will have fun listening to these guys. Many of their arrangements contain three-part harmony vocals over the instruments—extra tasty! The sound volume was loud enough to be heard well, but not so loud that your ears rang, and not so loud that you couldn't talk. And on top of all that, they looked good, too! You will be very glad you hired these guys. They can really make an evening sound perfect.

Dan Schwartz recently provided music for our wedding. We had about 80 adult guests at the Bachelor Farmer, and Dan's music fit the atmosphere and mood perfectly. He is very versatile, easily transitioning from ceremony to cocktail hour, to playing later in the evening with his group, the Neighborhood Trio. Guest after guest made a point of commenting on how much cooler his music was than the typical wedding DJ or top 40 band, and we couldn't have agreed more! Dan was also very easy to work with, coordinating directly with the restaurant's event coordinator regarding set-up and other logistics, so we could just relax and enjoy our wedding. Bottom line: I would HIGHLY recommend Dan to anyone looking for first-rate guitarist!

Tim Price was a valued member of our band for over 10 years. His creativity, work ethic and professionalism was always displayed at the highest level. My two favorite things about Tim are his entertaining stage presence and his willingness to be a team player at all times. In addition to these qualities, Tim is a good Christian and a great guy! He comes with my highest recommendation. Paul Shane Banks & Shane Atlanta, GA

We really enjoyed Mary as our children's piano teacher. Our daughter is a fluent piano player and uses her musical talent In a band every week. My sons received the musical training they needed to be proficient with drums. Mary is kind, gentle and encouraging. She is prepared for her lessons. We highly recommend her.

BW&M will be the highlight of your party or event. Besides being phenomenal musicians, they are great people and easy to work with. Lots of bands can play great covers, but this band is stacked with 3 amazing vocalists that have a ton of energy. Great for weddings, concerts, parties, etc.

We were recently lucky enough to have the Neighborhood Trio play at our wedding, which was about 80 adults at the Bachelor Farmer. We didn't want a DJ or top 40 band, as we were aiming for more of a cool, lounge vibe where our guests could enjoy a drink and some music but still have a conversation. After all, many had flown across the country to celebrate and visit with us and each other ... We weren't sure how to go about searching for musicians to fit this bill, but with the Neighborhood Trio we stumbled into the perfect solution. Their music is awesome, and it set the perfect mood for an awesome party! Nothing against Journey covers, but if you are looking for a slightly more sophisticated option, look no further. As their website said, their music is "perfect with a dry martini" ...

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
