- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Reading Tutoring: I will begin by meeting with the student and, if applicable, their family. Because the relationship between the student and the tutor is crucial to a successful learning experience, I offer an initial meeting for $25 before the client makes any agreement to move forward. If we decide, we are a great fit, we will determine goals and plans for session frequency. I will next do an initial assessment to see where the student's current strength and growth areas are and then share a learning plan. Writing: I ask new writing clients to fill out an intake form that helps me understand what they are looking for. Then, via phone or email, we will agree upon a timeline and pricing.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
For 22 years, I was a middle school English teacher, with a particular interest in creative and academic writing as well as fantasy literature. Since 2023, I’ve been an Instructional Coach, with a focus on anti-racist, culturally relevant pedagogy, increasing student agency, and depth of knowledge. In 2025, I completed basic Orton-Gillingham training, which uses a structured, multisensory approach to reading instruction and is especially effective for students with dyslexia. I am also trained in LETRS, a Science of Reading program recommended by the Minnesota Department of Education. I have a BA in English from Gustavus Adolphus College, an MS in Education from Winona State University—where my thesis focused on increasing literacy through bookmaking—and an EdS from Minnesota State University, Mankato, including my K–12 Administrative License. Since 2007, I’ve directed over 45 theater productions for both middle and high school students.
