We contacted Crescendo Trio to play music for our wedding in August. They were very responsive, professional, and friendly. They even provided us with a suggested list of music appropriate for a wedding, which helped us tremendously! On the day of the wedding, they showed up promptly and played beautiful music. All our guests complimented us on how great they were. I would certainly recommend Crescendo Trio to anyone looking for classical music for their special occasion.

I had always wanted to learn to play the saxophone. But, had a very hard time finding a teacher. Somehow, I found John Childers I took lessons from this wonderful, fun, generous, and above all PATIENT man. I felt truly and absolutely that he played (pun intended) a huge part in turning my life around. You see, I've had medical issues that included 5 strokes. With nothing short of a LONG & miraculous physical recovery, John not only helped my body get stronger, more importantly, he helped heal the emotional damage done by years of strokes & therapy. He helped me feel human again. He helped me find the pure joy that only comes from music. I will surely love and be indebted to this man for the rest of my life. I was VERY sad to be forced to take a break from his classes. But, I WILL get back there if he can stand trying to re-teach sax to a woman with a weak left arm again!! I know he can and would because of that patience I mentioned. I am working to be as patient with myself as he was with me! He is a wonderful musician, himself. Everyone should at least get the opportunity to hear him play! And then, for him to be able to bring his vast talent WAY down to my level takes a special kind of person. I know I would not have that patience, that gift.... He does!!!

I've hired Sol & Jonathan for 3 parties now. They're great guys who are concerned with personalizing their service to make your event successful. Guests loved the music, karaoke (with words projected on a screen), smoke, and especially the many cool lighting effects! They really transformed the venues into a dance club, whether a basement rec room or huge fellowship room at a church. Interesting and extensive collection of music, had no trouble getting all songs requested in advance. For a preteen party, they asked for our preferences regarding what songs and language we felt were acceptable and provided radio edits (censored versions) of songs as requested.

I have known Elizabeth for nearly 15 years. She has always strived to be the very best she can be, for herself and others. Elizabeth continues to find ways to enhance her abilities as a music professional. Elizabeth and I work closely together. I have observed her and her interactions with students, parents and colleagues. I have witnessed her students maturing in their music studies while having fun "playing" music. Elizabeth has an outstanding work / teaching ethic and has high standards for herself and those who work with her. I have, and will again, recommend Elizabeth as a private music teacher of harp, piano, guitar and music theory.

I do music, catering and decorations for weddings, parties, etc. I am a trained chef. I took culinary arts. I can basically cook anything. I plan events exactly like the way people want them. I also try to find the best deals for the people's buck, and I charge by the hour and is probably cheaper than the rest.

I'm one of the longest playing banjoists (nearly 50 years) in the Kansas City area giving lessons. I specialize in bluegrass and banjo, it's my main instrument. Second is the resophonic guitar. I can get you started on other bluegrass instruments too, just ask.

      About

I have taught piano and flute lessons for over eight years and have worked with many types of students. As a young professional, I believe I connect well with children and like to add fun into the lessons to inspire the love of music in my students. I have a classical music mindset and use sets of books that include a lesson, recital, technique, and theory book. Once the student is past the beginner stage, I help them find their "fun" songs whether that is a pop piece, Disney classics, or seasonal music such as Christmas music.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
