Introduction: Drum lessons are offered by a teacher with two music degrees. I am a professional musician, and I have over 30 years of experience in music. I have a bachelor's degree in music performance, and percussion. I also have a master's degree in music performance, and steel pan. I currently perform regularly around KC in the Candice Hill Band, The Tropical Dreamers (some regional touring), play snare in the Chiefs Rumble Drumline, teach high school drumline, middle school percussion, former adjunct for college drumline, and play drums for my church. I have been teaching percussion in the NKC school district as the percussion specialist for 10 years. I teach the following percussion instruments: * Snare - both concert snare and marching snare: all levels, both matched and traditional grip * Marching tenors and bass drum: all levels * Drumset: all ages, beginner, intermediate and advanced * Mallet percussion/keyboards: beginner, intermediate, advanced - generally up to college level * Timpani: beginner, intermediate, advanced * All other concert/orchestra percussion: all levels * Latin Percussion: beginner * Steel Pan: all levels Private lessons can help perfect your technique and style interpretation. I can help prepare you for auditions, school band, district or state contests, going to college and becoming a professional musician. I teach based on a method that helps you achieve your individual skills. If you are in a school band, the path you will take in lessons will hone skills needed for this. If you play just for fun, we will learn songs you like and styles you prefer. Everyone's goals are different and each lesson will cater to this. I have references and a resume if you wish to do more research on me. I have played in marching bands, jazz bands, orchestras, small ensembles, percussion ensembles, steel bands, trios, and more.

Candice does an excellent job of pushing me to play better by providing me with challenging material. She strikes a great balance between guiding my lessons that will improve my skills and taking me where I want to go with drumming. Because she has a variety of skills in percussion (drum set, steel pan, hand percussion) and various genres, she can tackle a lot more and teach you much more than most of the drummers around here. I seriously walked into drum lessons saying "I don't have rhythm". After taking lessons for several years, I'm realizing how silly that comment was. Now my rhythm on drums and other instruments has vastly improved and I'm a more confident individual than I ever have been. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone for drum or percussion lessons!

Candice is very professional and passes on her passion for drums with her students. She has been very accommodating and willing to work with us due to our crazy and unpredictable schedules!!! Our son is learning a lot and enjoying it!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

    I offer cash discounts!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Instruction is individualized. I work with new students to discuss short and long term goals, and make a plan based off of their goals.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a bachelors and masters degree in music. I have been teaching in the NKC school district and Avila University since 2011, and have been teaching private lesson since 2008. I also perform regularly around KC, as well as regionally, in my own band and subbing for other bands, educational workshops, etc. Continuing to performa regularly keeps me happy, and helps me to be a better teacher, as I am out there in the field.
