Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Most people will only teach you the material. However, not only will I teach you the material, but also I will teach you the methodology and the logic behind learning the material. I am a strong believer that if you can know how to learn the material, then you are on a quicker path to learning the material yourself and not having to depend on me or anyone else to continue to learn it. Quite simply put, when I have done my job for you, you no longer need me, because you know how to learn it on your own. Also, most tutors only have experience teaching in private tutoring sessions (not in other settings, such as corporate training classes and actually managing a tutoring center). I have experience in both private tutoring sessions and other settings, including formerly managing a tutoring center with about 500 tutors and 600 tutees and conducting corporate training classes for up to 8 trainees at a time about 1 to 2 times per month (with the associated responsibilities of conducting the training in an effective, cost-conscious, and time-efficient manner for a $1.588 billion corporation). What I like most about my job is when people use logic and reasoning to figure out the answer on their own, and although I am there for you, I can be a facilitator for learning and not a spoon-feeder.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Recently, I have become a Uniform National Certified Bookkeeper (which required passing a national examination). Overall, I stay on top of the field with national examinations, certifications, licenses, and self-study learning (much of it on the Internet).

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

After starting to do unpaid career counseling and tutoring about 11 years ago, I decided that I enjoyed doing it so much that I should start my own business doing it.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look beyond the credentials. Many who have numerous credentials make poor teachers, and many who have few credentials make great teachers. More important than the credentials is that the person can explain the material to you in a simple yet comprehensive fashion, can show you how to learn the material on your own, and can show you how to apply the material to the real world. Doing those three things is not related to how many or which credentials one has.
