FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Recently, I have become a Uniform National Certified Bookkeeper (which required passing a national examination). Overall, I stay on top of the field with national examinations, certifications, licenses, and self-study learning (much of it on the Internet).
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After starting to do unpaid career counseling and tutoring about 11 years ago, I decided that I enjoyed doing it so much that I should start my own business doing it.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look beyond the credentials. Many who have numerous credentials make poor teachers, and many who have few credentials make great teachers. More important than the credentials is that the person can explain the material to you in a simple yet comprehensive fashion, can show you how to learn the material on your own, and can show you how to apply the material to the real world. Doing those three things is not related to how many or which credentials one has.
