FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, and my design background includes courses in Ad Design, Corporate Identity and Publication Design. I am experienced with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, QuarkXpress, as well as other publication software. I spent a great deal of time doing online research for my Art History thesis, and I have taught myself a number of skills related to FTP and website design.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Before my position as a Pre-Press Technician at Standard Printing in Marshall, Michigan, I was a Graphic Artist with the Sturgis Journal in Sturgis, Michigan. Prior to moving to Michigan I worked with The Kirksville Daily Express in Kirksville, Missouri. My first position in graphic design was for The Kirksville Crier in 1991, typesetting auction ads, filler and some display ads. As you may notice from my résumé, I have over 30 years’ experience in prepress design as a graphic designer. During my employment at Slaughter Printing Company, I have designed forms, newsletters and booklets, and posters. I understand the use of spot and process color setups as well as book imposition. Since that time I have been a freelance designer working from home.
