FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do have a complicated pricing system. For writing services, I prefer to give custom quotes based on the type of writing, the topic, and how involved the project will be. I like to begin by seeing a writing sample (20-40 pages) and doing a sample edit to get a feel for how much needs to be done, the issues, and the speed at which it can be completed. That way my clients have a true idea of how much the project will cost and we can set a realistic deadline and rate. I offer both flat fees and hourly rates.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I keep up on content management strategies, and I routinely read and attend workshops about writing and publishing.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was a magazine editor for years, so organizing and proofreading pieces is second nature to me now, and I enjoy it. Freelance writing was a natural fit for me. But developmental editing of novels came about after I spent three years in an M.F.A. program responding to and editing works in progress. I also taught fiction writing, and so working one-on-one with writers on their stories has become my real passion.
