Introduction: Want to experience a transformation in the way you sing in your first lesson? I'm Matt Blanks and I have taught voice and piano for over 10 years. And I can give you the tools to change your sound in one lesson. I'm offering free spring consultations (10-minutes, online) through June 21 in case you want to try it out - you sing me a song and I'll do the rest. Dream clients for me are singer-songwriters looking for ways to sing consistently/reliably and folks with some classical training that want a healthy perspective into singing for popular genres (rock, country, folk, pop, gospel, etc). If you are one of these types of students, then I want to work with you, and I'll do what I can to meet you where you are cost-wise. I help artists and creatives develop their natural voices to their fullest potential. Some might call me a "vocal technician" because my advice will evolve the way you sing and approach music. While my prices may be higher than others, I will hold space for your objectives and give you the tools, support, and advice along the way to meet those goals. I believe anything is achievable with the right systems, habits, and guidance.

I had the pleasure to work with Matt Blanks as my vocal instructor during my recital semester at Mars Hill University. The amount of progress I made working with him for those four months is more than I have made within the past year! He took the knowledge and skill that I gained through my previous instructors and refined it, helping me achieve my best vocal ability yet. He made accommodations for me when needed, meeting with me over zoom for virtual lessons when I was remote; got to know me as an individual, understanding my learning style and adapting to it; and held me accountable for goals set in and outside of my lessons. If I had to pick one thing that made the most impact on me over our time together would be his ability to break down the practice process into steps. Allowing me to choose which aspects of the lesson I would like to work on, setting up the necessary scaffolding needed to achieve greatness. In addition to this, he would make it a point to have conversations with me about the vocal mechanism and process, ensuring my ability to apply these aspects to my practice and musicianship. To say I recommend Matt Blanks is an understatement. I truly believed he changed the course of my path as a musician. I would not be in the place I am today without him. I am truly blessed to have worked with him.

My first impression of working with Matt was that he clearly knew what he was doing and how to work with me for what I needed. He delivered the training in a way I could easily understand and take action with. I couldn't see how the session was going to make an immediate difference but it did and I was surprised and satisfied. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $44 for a half-hour lesson. For new students in 2022, I'm offering a discount to $35. If my prices aren't in your budget, I have a limited number of scholarship spots and sliding scale offerings.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Obtain your goals and background via a new student questionnaire. We can meet for a consultation if you want to get clearer on systems, or just dive in with a lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Degrees in music education and vocal performance. Experience singing classical opera and music theater contracts at a regional level. Estill Voice Training certification (in progress).
