Introduction: FIRST LESSON IS FREE! I have taught music professionally for 23 years, teaching hundreds of students guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, piano, drums, and voice. I teach "In Person" lessons in and around Asheville NC, as well as students across the country via "Online Lessons" since 2012. My passion has always been to impart to my students a love and appreciation for all styles and genres of music. One of my students went on to play on the world's largest stages with Katy Perry, while others went on to University and are now professional musicians and teachers themselves. Whether you just want to "get your feet wet and try something new," or you want to "conquer the world with the music inside your soul," I will work tirelessly to help you get the results that you are looking for.

Guitar Lessons

Paul responded promptly to my request for lessons, we discussed my goals and scheduled the first lesson. From the initial phone interview Paul picked up on my frustrations with learning guitar and tailored lessons that suited my specific skills and needs. I believe with Paul’s guidance, I will actually learn to play. It’s hard to describe what makes a good teacher good but we all know good ones when we have them. Paul is definitely one of the best.

Guitar Lessons

Paul is a terrific teacher. He made me feel very comfortable and worked extremely well with my knowledge bass to challenge me and add to it with a relatable personality, communication style, and disposition. He uses modern tech to expedite lessons and is very peofessional and succint, as well as affordable. I highly recommend him.

I consider myself to be very fortunate to have Paul as my guitar instructor. In fact, I am in my fourth year with him. In all my years (elementary through high school - and my sister taught music as well) I never knew of an instructor quite like or as good as Paul. Paul has the unique skill as an instructor for the capacity to tailor instruction to each student. This is what sets him apart from his peers. As a parent, you might want a formal start to learning music. Paul has the curriculum for such an approach. He is non-threatening to students. Instead, he sets direction and educates the student as to what is needed to be successful. He sets realistic expectations that allows the student a chance to succeed each week. My wife wants to perform live. She works best with a more repetitive, classic approach that Paul recognizes and fosters. I have less direction with my journey into learning the guitar. That would be unacceptable to most instructors. Despite not providing Paul with a specific goal and with no real desire to perform (I am 66 by the way), he has given me a wide berth of instruction that has enabled me to learn critical playing skills and some needed theory as well. Paul has not only found the right path forward for educating me, he has supported my learning efforts by providing a solid base with plenty of leverage for being creative as well. Moreover, Paul has been more effective than even he will know in managing my own considerable skill at slacking. If you are considering taking up music yourself or for a loved one, you can do no better than starting with an introductory lesson with Paul Hutchison.

Guitar Lessons

Paul is very charming and knowledgeable upon first impression. Our schedules didn't align but I was already beginning to understand theory and practice questions I've had even during our short conversation ⭐

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The first lesson is ALWAYS FREE!!! There is no pressure to sign up and the customer can take their time to let me know if I feel like a good fit for their needs. If you do decide to take lessons, tuition is a flat rate of $100 p/month for 4 half hour lessons, or $200 p/month for 4 hour lessons.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once we have made contact I usually offer a free phone consultation (or email) in which I ask the potential student what their goals are for lessons and what styles and genres are they interested in learning. From there if we both feel that it might work, we schedule a Free 45 minute Trial Lesson at a time convenient to both the student and myself.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taught professionally for 23 years in Toronto, Birmingham, Washington D.C. and Asheville. I have taught 100's of students, some of which have gone on to great things such as one who became Katy Perry's guitarist. I toured and recorded with recording artist Liona Boyd and Johannes Linstead. I have performed at 100's of shows from concerts, television, radio, weddings, receptions, corporate events, and private functions.
