Introduction: FIRST LESSON IS FREE! I have taught music professionally for 25 years, teaching hundreds of students guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, piano, drums, and voice. I teach "In Person" lessons in and around Asheville NC, as well as students across the country via "Online Lessons" since 2012. My passion has always been to impart to my students a love and appreciation for all styles and genres of music. One of my students went on to play on the world's largest stages with Katy Perry, while others went on to University and are now professional musicians and teachers themselves. Whether you just want to "get your feet wet and try something new," or you want to "conquer the world with the music inside your soul," I will work tirelessly to help you get the results that you are looking for.

I’ve only had one lesson at this point but I already feel like I’m advancing my guitar playing. I’m very excited for more lessons with Paul as he took the time to figure out what I want to learn and quickly formulated a great plan to achieve those goals.

Paul is a great teacher and very easy to work with. He understands your level of knowledge with the guitar and simplifies it for you to make sure you understand everything on your level versus just throwing what he knows at you worrying if you retain the lessons/tips and guidance. I will continue to work with Paul and hope everyone at any level of guitar works with him too!

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training • No, cannot read music • Acoustic • Country • What the teacher recommends • Yes, the student has an instrument • 60 minutes • My home, venue, etc. • Remotely (phone or internet)

After my daughter’s first guitar teacher passed away, we were devastated and searched high and low for a new guitar teacher and ended up trying several teachers. Some teachers were technically excellent themselves, but lacked the empathy and positive encouragement to be able to teach children. Some teachers assigned many songs that were at the wrong level which just resulted in a lot of frustration. We are so forever grateful that we finally found Paul. He is the needle in the haystack, a true gem of a teacher who is not only amazingly talented and extremely versatile (just listen to his music from his website http://paulhutchison.net ) but is also an excellent teacher with decades of experience and a huge repertoire of music. What makes Paul an excellent teacher? He is so humorous and kindhearted, very inspirational and positive. I cannot emphasize how important those personality traits are in a music teacher. With the rare ability to quickly figure out my daughter’s guitar level, Paul customized the lessons to help her grow. Paul taught her music that stretched her abilities as a player in the best way possible. A brief glance at the testimonials on Paul’s website and you’ll understand how wonderful of a teacher he is. He has taught someone who eventually became the songwriter, producer and guitarist for Katy Perry and has inspired other longtime students to study music in college. An excellent teacher is someone who is compassionate, inspirational and has a love for his craft, someone who is able to challenge the student just the right amount and help the student develop to their fullest potential as a musician. Paul is all of that and our family feels very lucky to have found him! Check out Paul's Website to listen to his music and read more rave reviews :) http://paulhutchison.net

Paul is such a kind and considerate man. He's easy to work with, encouraging and has really great energy. He really impacts me positively and makes me feel excited about something that I considered unfamiliar. I definitely recommend this great teacher . He teaches well and makes the unfamiliar seem familiar. 😊 I feel great about more future guitar lessons!

Paul has been such a great guitar teacher! I'm SO glad I found him! I'm already learning to pick and I've had only 3 sessions! He is also teaching me a song that I love that I wanted to learn which makes lessons fun. Paul explains things in a way that I can easily understand. He is always on time and takes the time to really teach me. He is patient, and encouraging. His prices are also very affordable compared to other guitar lesson prices. I would HIGHLY recommend reaching out to him for lessons!! -May

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The first lesson is ALWAYS FREE!!! There is no pressure to sign up and the customer can take their time to let me know if I feel like a good fit for their needs. If you do decide to take lessons, tuition is a flat rate of $140 p/month for 4 half hour lessons, or $280 p/month for 4 hour lessons.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Once we have made contact I usually offer a free phone consultation (or email) in which I ask the potential student what their goals are for lessons and what styles and genres are they interested in learning. From there if we both feel that it might work, we schedule a Free 45 minute Trial Lesson at a time convenient to both the student and myself.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taught professionally for 23 years in Toronto, Birmingham, Washington D.C. and Asheville. I have taught 100's of students, some of which have gone on to great things such as one who became Katy Perry's guitarist. I toured and recorded with recording artist Liona Boyd and Johannes Linstead. I have performed at 100's of shows from concerts, television, radio, weddings, receptions, corporate events, and private functions.
