Introduction: I have been tutoring for many years even before I went to graduate school including working for an SAT/GRE/MCAT/DAT test service. My mastery of the material and passion for it is not just what I bring to the table. I have a genuine interest in students and have developed my own methods of finding the real problems students face. Eight years of phone crisis line work has given me a lot of counseling and facilitative communication skills that help me get out what is really going on. Most importantly, I know when to shut up and not interfere with a students work and investigation and let them make their mistakes in a stress free environment so we can both learn from them. Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I have a 12 yo who has gone from 6th grade to doing the Harvard/MIT math challenge problems in less than a year.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you want the cheapest person there are people who will bark the material at your kid for less. I don't really want customers coming back for years. Most kids just need to get their morale back and overcome a few deficiencies.
