I am a beginner mandolin student of Jan Johansson and I have been under his instruction for several weeks. His passion for music is phenomen but to share his great wealth of knowledge is worth every penny to learn under. I have only taken lessons under one other instructor and I was lost but since I've been under jan, I have a better understanding and my playing is coming along. If you are in need of lessons and have a passion for music please give Jan a try. I absolutely love to hear him play any of his instruments: guitar, mandolin and fiddle.

I learned Bluegrass Mandolin from Jan when I lived in Raleigh in late '90. It was my dream time. I miss your lesson, but I really enjoyed it. I take a Japanese mandolin teacher's lessons and enjoy mandolin in Japan. But everything was starting from your lesson.

Jan is a master musician and a superb teacher. Jan's technique is instruction by example rather than the standard boring scales practice etc.. He'll have you playing tunes almost immediately. He will "finesse" your efforts with music theory when and if appropriate and will not "beat you over the head" with it. This produces an altogether pleasurable learning experience and after all isn't that what playing music should be all about?? Jan instructs from a exceptional depth of experience as a working professional musician -- highly recommended.. Tom Evans
