FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a newspaper copy chief, I was often called upon to train people to post stories online - and i did once work as an online editor. I also learned how to adjust editing to prepare a story or blog for a quick post online, as opposed to a formal, deep edit.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
By total accident! I was studying English in college in Bozeman, Montana, and was looking for work to help pay for school. There was an ad in the local paper that said the paper was looking for someone to work in sports, and I applied, having tired of failing at waitressing. It was my first newspaper job, and I did everything from report on high school and college sports to laying out the newspaper and going to the composing room and pasting up type.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I helped edit (on an unpaid, volunteer basis) a modern design magazine in Denver. The job entailed a lot of editing as well as proofreading, and the subject matter was always interesting. I love mid-century modern architecture and style, and this was right in that zone.
