Introduction: Being in the mountainous area process servers are rare from other outlaying areas. As a private process I offer up to three or four attempts to complete service. The Sheriff makes limited attempts and if not successful the papers are returned. I try to serve until all attempts have been exhausted. The residents in my zone are 80% from other states and sometimes are only here for 4-6 months and then return to their other homes. We deal with service on the Cherokee Reservation, as well as the process for from the other 49 states. In North Carolina we cannot by statute serve cases filed in North Carolina unless they have been unable to the county sheriff. To get to to a residence 15 miles up the road takes about an hour to get there due to the mountain roads. Probably the most liked about being a process server is meeting the people and have great contacts with my clients who I have been contracted by. In general when serving various people I try to make a friend by being sure that they have knowledge of why I am there and being sure that some idea of what there obligation or what they need to do next. My vast experience as a retired police officer is an asset when I need to do this.
