- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For coaching and single lessons, I accept PayPal and credit, paid in advance. Rate: $85/hr. For ongoing lessons, I teach 36 lessons per year, 30 during the academic year, September through May, and 6 over the summer. Monthly tuition by autopayment. Weekly group lessons are limited to 5 students, so that students get the advantages of learning in a small group environment in addition to personalized attention. I teach limited individual lessons for advanced students, for those who are waiting to join a group, and for coaching sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
SINGING/VOICE LESSONS Beginning students learn the basics of breathing and sound production, gently increasing range and building technique over time. Lessons include ear training so students learn to recognize pitch and sing on pitch. Beginners will learn melodies by ear at first, then progress to read music. Students will explore the history behind each composer and composition. Children learn through fun, age appropriate activities and games in addition to demonstration and practice. Advanced students will study and learn more difficult repertoire based on their skill level and interests. Lesson time may include sight singing, mic skills, acting and interpretation, and preparation for auditions, competitions, and performances. Students will have the opportunity to perform in studio classes and recitals to celebrate their accomplishments, showcase their skills, and gain valuable performance experience in a supportive environment. Students are also encouraged to participate in student auditions and music festivals, and to seek out other performance experiences throughout the year. An accompanist will be provided for rehearsal and for the recital, or singers can hire their own. Additional fees apply. PIANO LESSONS Students are introduced to the piano, and start to get a "feel" for the instrument during the first lesson. Then, we'll start learning technique, note names for keys, and learning pieces. As students progress, we'll add note reading, music theory, and a bit about the history behind each composer and composition. Students have the opportunity to perform in studio classes and recitals, and in auditions, competitions, and other performances. Additional fees apply.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
With my extensive performance experience as a classical singer, choral singer, as well as training and experience with musical theater and contemporary styles, I offer something for everyone, whether you're starting lessons for the first time or embarking on a career as a performer. I've held a number of professional positions in music education, and I'm actively involved with National Association of Teachers of Singing, Music Teachers National Association, American College of Musicians, and International Young Artists Project. I hold a BA in Music with a concentration in Voice, with Piano as my secondary instrument. I also hold a doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
