Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I believe in quality work. My name is behind my work and that is my livelihood. I consider every tasks as though it were my own home and would not do partial quality in my own home and would never do it for a customer. My work is my reputation and my skills and craftsmanship is my business/name. I love building and creating something new or to restore something to its original beauty. I believe you have to love your job to be good at it and there is no other job I would want to be doing. My love for the work shows in my work.

Simply put Karl was our savoir. After hiring what we thought were professionals we hired Karl to actually accomplish what in the end exceeded our expectations. Karl is not only a highly skilled individual, he is a good man, always punctual, and while he is methodical he is entirely open to explaining what is involved and what options there may be. Karl completely rebuilt the entire sun room wall which included replacing eight large windows, sheet rock, and trim. Karl did such a great job we had him build us a multi tiered deck, and then had him come over to my wife's Mothers home and replace three sliding doors, repair some header and trim rot. Karl is easy to get along with, trustworthy, and I couldn't give him a high enough recommendation. James Lynch Durham, NC

Pros: good design. Cons: Installed cracked beams. Left the structure unstable (steps and railings were wobbly) when asked by my wife about the instability he replied with "that's the way it's supposed to be" I was deployed when the construction of this was beginning, but I was there during the planning phases. I held off on the review until I had another contractor come in and inspect the structure. It will cost me more to fix it than it cost to build it. He also left his trash behind under the excess lumber. I understand he couldn't remove the lumber, but the trash would've been an easy fix. He said he had to leave town but he would get back with us, and that was a few months ago. I would not hire him again.
Karl Knapp's reply
I informed Marks wife/customer that it was new premium pressure treated lumber purchased at Lowes in Sanford and was wet when purchased. I informed her that shrinking and cracking will take place. Decking was put down tight after I returned upon her request to address any issues. I did retighten screws and then she notified me of cracked post and I do not make the wood.. I only construct the deck which I advised her of as I have no control of condition of wood she selected and purchased herself. She/customer also informed me that the deck was going to be stained to prevent some of the sun dried shrinking and cracking and I feel that the contractor who informed them it would cost more to repair than it cost in the first place is lying and is welcome to get in touch with me at any time as I do not believe this statement and would talk with any contractor regarding it. I did have to leave to return to VT for emergency situation and advised customer of this after the job was completed and told her to get back in touch with me in two weeks which I never heard back. I NEVER heard back from customer again regarding ANY problems as I told them "I back my work".. not the product that they chose to purchase at Lowes... but my work I guarantee. Due to the neglect of the customers not getting back to me, I am truly sorry they are disappointed and this is my first time hearing this, but they should have contacted me regarding this. I did discuss with her the fact of having debris removed and she stated that she was going to have to pay her own garbage man extra to have it removed... as no debris removal was discussed in quote. However, I realize contractors are not going to please everybody, but seeing how this is my first and lowest rating since I have joined thumbtack I am still going to stand behind my work. As a contractor I would have appreciated being contacted if there were issues or concerns about the construction of my work so that I could have addressed it professionally and seen the issues myself. Its hard to stand behind your work when no one advised me they were unsatisfied. thumbtack CEO just labeled me as best of 2015 award which I feel I have earned as I seem to only have had this 1 disappointed customer in over a years time that I hold a pretty high standard and have had many happy customers and will continue serve them. Thank you.

We recently purchased an immaculate mid century home with custom cabinetry throughout the kitchen. Karl did a wonderfully careful job modifying the cabinets to accommodate our new appliance. Karl was prompt, friendly, talented and absolutely reasonable. A real gem!
