- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The two most important things anyone looking to hire a dj is price and knowledge. First, The most important thing is knowledge. I have seen djs with expensive systems that barely know how to set it up much less run it professionally. Get some insight in the dj's experience, past shows, what their favorite piece of gear is and why, etc... Find a dj that is passionate about djing, and steer away from the big companies that are just in it for the money. Second, price is always important when hiring a dj for any type of event especially reception djs. They are in charge of keeping the reception on track, the guests entertained, and lastly appropriate music for the reception. A reception dj has a lot of responsibility. So price wise never go for the cheapest dj on the block or the most expensive. Instead, ask the right questions. Ask them if the date is available before speaking to them on the phone. There is no point in wasting your time and theirs if the date is already booked. Next ask whomever you call how long they have been doing it and if you can speak with the dj that would be at your wedding rather than speak to someone else that you won't book with. Get some insight on their experience, the more diverse the better. Yeah, you are going to get some guys that have been doing weddings for 40 years or 15 years but to make a wedding a big success you should shoot for a dj that has done it all from big events to receptions. You want your wedding to be a blast but professional. Feel free to ask about other things like the playlist, dress code, and so on. You want to get a diverse, professional dj at a good price!
