The Hodges Companies was fortunate to have Melissa do a photo shoot of David Hodges, Sr., the Company owner and President. The photos were to be used in a marketing promotion by Camden Bank. Melissa did an excellent job to engage Dave during the shoot. He was a very humble man and didn't like a fuss made of him. Melissa captured his wonderful smile and his down-to-earth manner in the photos. We are very grateful to Melissa for her talent and professionalism. She instantly put Dave at ease and they were easily laughing and sharing stories throughout the photo session. Several months later, Dave passed away at the age of 84. We now have two wonderful photos of Dave Melissa took that day gracing our office lobby and our board room. Seeing the photos each day of our well-loved and respected former President is a huge comfort. The Hodges Companies are very grateful to Melissa for her talent and her help to keep Dave in our memories.Feb 2, 2016Melissa C.'s reply
Thank you very much Sharon for sharing this story. I'm so glad that I was able to photograph Mr. Hodges and that his company and family have these portraits to remember him with; commemorating that great swirl of hair and smiling face.
Melissa was professional, creative and fun to work with.Dec 15, 2015Verified
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I'm always attending day workshops for Adobe Photoshop which is what I use for retouching and is a fantastic/multilayered program that's always being upgraded. I also have joined the Adobe Creative Cloud where I have access to such creative and organizing programs and social connections to keep up on new techniques/aesthetics etc.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I took a portrait of my friend in 7th grade...she had these huge almond eyes and I used a zoom lens and was full frame with her face and I just felt I captured a moment of her that seemed to transform this young teen into something a bit iconic. And the experience in the darkroom and then support from my teacher and an art show ribbon sealed it. I had found something that I was good at and that felt great. I always felt so fortunate to know at a young age what I love to do and just have kept stubbornly at it through my education for it and all my work experience.
- What types of customers have you worked with?I do a lot of children portraits which I love and then the parents get in there and I work with everyone all together. But I've done so many types of photography that I feel very comfortable with many different types of photo assignments.
